Crushed bj by a Cave.
Los ANGELES, November 19.—By a
“. gave-in this morning in Broadway tun-nel George W. Russell, blacksmith, was
probably fatally injured. Russell was
standing on one of the earthern columns
left. in the center of the tunnel for the
support of the roof and was engaged in
timbering the latter when several tons ning
of earth, doubtless loosened by the recent rains, came down without warning,
striking the unfortunate man with
terrific force. His right temple was
crashed in, several ribs broken on
either side and his right leg badly hurt.
He was taken to the Receiving Hospital
and his injuries attended to, but it is
i not bel ieved that he 6 can recover,

Pe as that the well Known Dead‘wood and Oolbert’ mines in Willow
Valley have been bondéd to an Eastern
company. The parties who have secured the-bond are said to be in good t
circumstances to develop the mines,
which sre situated in a fine territory.
If reports ean be credited it is their
intention to put up machinery. on the
Deadwood and work the two’ mines in
a systematic manner. In years past,
the Deadwood has produced a considerable amount and those familiar with)
the property. believe it one of the promising prospects of this district. {
Died Saturday.
Mrs. Christine Jepsen died at Salinas‘ last Saturday. Deceased was
aged 23 years and a native of Sebastoe
pol, near North SanJuan. She left for
Salinas five years ago and has resided
there ever since. To mourn her loss
she leaves a number of relatives, among
them being Nelson Jepsen, a brother,
who came down from the Plumbago
mine and left for Salinas on Sunday.
