Woodland Democrat: The newspapers of
the State are already beginning to discuss
the constitutionality of tho amendment to
the county governnient act which makes the
torm of all county officers four years. It is
reported that an agreed case will be taken
up from Sclano égounty in order that the
matter may be fina'ly adjudivated. If the
law should be held. invalid, there wall be
another election of officers in 1896.
In the meantime, a contest is talked of in
another direction, A San Jose party, who
does not dispute the constitutionality of the
law, contends that under its operation there
ought not to have been an election for county
officers until 1896,
County Clerk Boring, who was a candidate for re-election on the Populist ticket
and failed of re-election, is credited with
being the first to question the legality of the
election. ‘The position taken is that, with
the exception of County Superintendent: of
Schools, Assessor and Supervisors, all
county officers who were iu office November
6th will hold over until the regular clection in
1896. Those who are holding to this opinion
that the election isillegal say the late
four years. But whether elected for four
years or two years they claim that those in
office before the election must hold over
until the regular election of 1896,
