Marshal Getchell and Constable Dillon last evening arrested four tramps, who were found camped near Gold Run creek, not far from the depot. They have been around town two or three-days, one of them selling solder, the others levying tribute upon qur people for something to eat, They bought alcohol and made their own whisk y and got gloriously drunk, ‘ The four men were locked up in the city prison over night. This morning they were taken before Justice Carr, pleaded guilty to the charge of vagrancy and received. their sentence, as follows: James O’Rourke, forty days in the county jail; James Gleason, thirty-five “days; Samuel Kenny,’ fifteen days; Samuel Sellers, who is only a boy, ten days. Woodland Democrat: The newspapers of the State are already beginning to discuss the constitutionality of tho amendment to the county governnient act which makes the torm of all county officers four years. It is reported that an agreed case will be taken up from Sclano égounty in order that the matter may be fina'ly adjudivated. If the law should be held. invalid, there wall be another election of officers in 1896. In the meantime, a contest is talked of in another direction, A San Jose party, who does not dispute the constitutionality of the law, contends that under its operation there ought not to have been an election for county officers until 1896, County Clerk Boring, who was a candidate for re-election on the Populist ticket and failed of re-election, is credited with being the first to question the legality of the election. ‘The position taken is that, with the exception of County Superintendent: of Schools, Assessor and Supervisors, all county officers who were iu office November 6th will hold over until the regular clection in 1896. Those who are holding to this opinion that the election isillegal say the late four years. But whether elected for four years or two years they claim that those in office before the election must hold over until the regular election of 1896, + e@ee = « Wants His Parole.
