James Kelly, who was bitten by a dog abo ut six weeks ago, has not, recovered yet from the effects of the wound. His leg is still very: sore. Pecarty has received his turkeys for Thanksgiving and will be ready this evening to dispose of them,. He can le found at the Free Coinage saloon, on Commercial street. If you want a good Jaugh, go to the Theater tonight and see ‘The Dark Town Court,” presented by the-Hamden Specialty Company, A special meeting of the Chosen Friends will be held this evening for the purpose of receiving the Grand Recorder, who will pay an official visit to the’ Council. An Italian woodchopper who is’ stopping at Solari’s boarding house had one of his eyes badly burt the other day by a particle of steel getting in it. He may lose the injured eye, The high wind that prevailed about noon " yesterday blew down beveral large glass doors that had just been painted and stood up back of W. G: Richards’ grocery store. They fell with a crash, breaking all the glass and badly demolishing the sashes. Remember, that ‘the male quartet with Senator Hamden’s Specialty Company wili sing the beautiful song, ‘‘Alice, Where Art Thou?” at the Theater tonight. They sing many other nice songs, but' will give the above selection by special request of some of the Senator's old-time friends. The season for overcoats is at hand, and Carter & Johnston have something to say on the subject that is of interest to those who have not yet provided themselves with winter wraps. the Transceipr’s advertising columns. The jig dancing of one of the members of Senator Hamden’s Specialty Company tan't be excelled. He is an artist, him dauce and hear him play the harmonica, at whi-h he also excels, if you go to the Theater tonight, THE DIFFERENCE. The “Mail Question in Two Neighboring Cities, A few Grass Vallcy citizens have noted that the western mail at the postoffice close each day at 5:15 pe. mM, They have also noted that the postoffice at Nevada City makes up a western mail at 8 P, M, Why, they say, can we not have an eveniug mail from Grass Valley? A comparison of the railroad time table for the two cities will explain matters, In thé first ‘place, Grass Valley has one more train each way per day than Nevada City. The latter town has no train corresponding to the 6.05 P.M. train from Grass Valley. This train. makes close connection at Colfax, aad letters mailed so as to go thereby, reaches San Francisco in time for delivery next morning. Nevada City is not so fortunate, Her latest train for Colfax each day is 12 Pp. m Letters mailed there at 8p, m, are held until the next morning, and reach San Francisco via Stockton’ at 4515 p. Mm. the day after being mailed, Those same mails are distributed no earlier at Sin Franciso than the mails leaving Grass Valley at 12 m., and very little earlier than those sent at 5:15 P, mM. the nextday. Under these circumstances why should the (irass Valley postmaster use the morniug train for mail that will reach its destination almost as soon if sent by the noon train? As arranged at present, Grass Valjiey’s mail facilities are much superior for promptness to those at Nevada] City—Tidings. Read their announcement in You can see Been rile Will Move the House: The ground continues to sink in the lot on Piety Hill where Mrs, Badger has been living. ‘been removed to the barn. H. H.
