He is still an owner in.mining properties in Tuolumne and Shasta counties, and wants to know all about the mines around Nevada City. “Business generally is improving all through this country,” he adds, “but I can’t say much for the climate. The frosts began cutting down vegetation about the 10th of October, and we have bid adieu to the summer and fall of 1897. Some days this fall the thermometer would get up to 88 degrees, and then inside a week drop to 34.” ML pe age Was Almost There. Mrs. J. A. Craig of Columbia Hill recently received a letter from her brother, Will Smith, who left Gem, Idaho, some time ago for Alaska.
