The public reading and club room is also of great benefit and convenience to our townspeople, and especially during the long winter evenings when there happens to be an absence of amusements or other attractions in town. As most of our business men have adopted the early-closing movement, they have ample time now to patronize an attractive place of this sort and enjoy any desirable length of time in business or social conversation. Then again, the addition of this important improvement would be a great credit to our mountain city and give it increased prestige all over the Coasi, as well as in the immediate vicinity. We trust that the efforts now being made for the establishment of a reading room will receive tents, amounting to $50. Was Killed. If any Eastern and Southern State was inflicted with this blight and-curse to the same degree and extent that our Golden State was before the Geary act became a law, and then enjoy and realize the great benefit of a short respite from the influx of these heathens to our Coast and their encroachments upon the rights: and privileges of our people, the citizens of that State would rise up as one man and demand of Congress that the exclusion law be made perpetual. If our Eastern friends can be enlightened so as to take the just and correct view of the existing state of affairs, there will be but little opposition to the efforts and desires of our California citizens to have the exclusion law re-enacted. With such strong and infinential advocates of our cause as President Roosevelt, Senators Perkins and Bard, Congressman Woods and other representative men of the State and Nation, and the united sentiment of the entire press and public of the Pacific.
