The parties who made complaint about the slaughter house belonging to Colley Bros. being objectionable failed to appear before the City Trustees at their special session last night. The matter was therefore laid over until the 19th of next month, when all interested may appear and state their views on the subject. City Attorney Lindley was then directed to proceed against several sewer delinquents. Mr. Michell says he is improying in health and his hosts of friends here would be pleased to know of hia perfect health, and that he would return to his old Nevada City home again, Life of Roosevelt. Brown, George Slee ~ Janes Mitts, James Kitte, an old resident of. this Township, died suddenly yesterday at San Francisco, while on~a visit to his daughter, Mrs, A. L. Coomts. Mr. Kitts croseed the plains in 1850, and was in this city that year when the miners were hauling the gravel from Coyote Hill and washing it near where the Union Hotel now stands, Returning to Indiana he married Miss Eliza Ludley and came across the plains again in 1852, His young wife drove a span of mules all the way. They crossed Beckwith Pass and settled in Yaba county, near what is now known as Ohallenge Mill, where they built a road-side house, much patronized by the teamsters and t:avelera of those days. He afterwards built the “Barton House” on what was then known as the Rabbit Oreek. road. Then he purchased the Union Hotel at Laporte and in 1856 -he owned a hotel at Jamieson City. In 1867 he came to this city, and soon after located at Willow Valley, where he engaged in mining for many years. He built the Oriental mill at that place which was used asa custom mill, and worked the Buckeye mine. At this place his wife died, in 1874, In 1876 he married again to Mies Elien Oliver. He served with the Indiana Volunteers under General Jo. Lane, in the war with Mexieo. He is the last surviving veteran of that war in this section, : For the past sixteen years he has resided with his family on the Glenbrook road, near Town Talk. His age was 76 years. He leaves a widow and three eons—Chas. W. Kitts, the well known lawyer, John Kitts, the millwright, H. L. Kitts, and a daughter, Mrs, A. L. Coombs of San. Francisco children of his firat wife, and two sons, Herbert 8S. Kitts, ex-Deputy Postmaster of this city, and Lisle E. Kitts, ch'ldren of his surviving widow. _ The funeral will take place from his late. residence on Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, and the relatives and friends are invited to attend. * . . This place is the terminus of the new railroad, and the scene in that locality is. very pretty: The special train will leave Nevada Oity to-mo-row night at 10:30 o’clock; Grass Valley at 11, connecting at Colfax with Southern Pacific train, the excursionists reaching Beckwith about 10 o’clock on Thankegiving morning. There will bea grand ball there in. the afternoon and evening. There will also be a baseball game, horse races, turkey and pigeon shooting. In fact, the entire time from the arrival of the excursion train. until far into the next day will be one continueus round of pleasure. The fare from this city and return is only $5 20.
