Matter Lald Over.
The parties who made complaint
about the slaughter house belonging
to Colley Bros. being objectionable
failed to appear before the City Trustees at their special session last night.
The matter was therefore laid over until the 19th of next month, when all
interested may appear and state their
views on the subject. City Attorney
Lindley was then directed to proceed
against several sewer delinquents.

~ Janes Mitts,
James Kitte, an old resident of. this
Township, died suddenly yesterday
at San Francisco, while on~a visit to
his daughter, Mrs, A. L. Coomts.
Mr. Kitts croseed the plains in 1850,
and was in this city that year when the
miners were hauling the gravel from
Coyote Hill and washing it near where
the Union Hotel now stands, Returning to Indiana he married Miss Eliza
Ludley and came across the plains
again in 1852, His young wife drove a
span of mules all the way. They
crossed Beckwith Pass and settled in
Yaba county, near what is now known
as Ohallenge Mill, where they built a
road-side house, much patronized by
the teamsters and t:avelera of those
days. He afterwards built the “Barton House” on what was then known
as the Rabbit Oreek. road. Then he
purchased the Union Hotel at Laporte
and in 1856 -he owned a hotel at
Jamieson City. In 1867 he came to
this city, and soon after located at
Willow Valley, where he engaged in
mining for many years. He built the
Oriental mill at that place which was
used asa custom mill, and worked the
Buckeye mine. At this place his wife
died, in 1874, In 1876 he married again
to Mies Elien Oliver. He served with
the Indiana Volunteers under General
Jo. Lane, in the war with Mexieo. He
is the last surviving veteran of that war
in this section, :
For the past sixteen years he has
resided with his family on the Glenbrook road, near Town Talk. His age
was 76 years. He leaves a widow and
three eons—Chas. W. Kitts, the well
known lawyer, John Kitts, the millwright, H. L. Kitts, and a daughter,
Mrs, A. L. Coombs of San. Francisco
children of his firat wife, and two sons,
Herbert 8S. Kitts, ex-Deputy Postmaster of this city, and Lisle E. Kitts, ch'ldren of his surviving widow. _
The funeral will take place from his
late. residence on Thursday morning at
10 o'clock, and the relatives and friends
are invited to attend. *
. . Smoker Tonight.
Hydraulic Parlor, No, 56, N. 8. G.
W., of this city, will give a smoker tonight after the regular session. The
occasion will be a merry one, and the
attendance will be large.

of this kind within a short time,
