MORROW is Thanksgiving Day. In the country’s
wonderful pr ity. atriot has abundant
reason to feel Us, , dike ateful. Therefore,
President Roosevelt’s and Governor Gage’s proclamations setting aside this<date for a day of thanksgiving
throughout the State and Nation was most fitting.
. For the unprecedented and general prosperity which has
attended our progressive republic’ and’ its ;people every true
and loyal American citizen has just and ample cause to
rejoice with thanksgiving in his soul, and therefore patriotic
song or sentiment should -have-a place in our thanksgiving
programs tomorrow, when tlie‘hearts of our people are lifted
with one accord to the Almighty*for blessings enjoyed and
preservation of life. Bringing it down to the State, every
resident of California who loves her, also has cause to rejoice
that prosperity is so much in evidence. But with the indi-z
vidual, his or her circumstances, will -probably. determine to
a greater or less extent the nature.of his or her feelings, and
while it is undemiable tha othe ¥ st, majority of the people of
this country are doing well, still there are many who, from
one cause or another, are not; and though every man, woman
and child has some cause for thanksgiving when they stop to
reflect over their:personal History forthe past twelve months,
it is, nevertheless, mighty hard to force such an acknowledg‘ment from the unhap} 1 Fe ardless of the reason for the unhappiness. People:catu s good, by law, neither can
they be filled witha spirit of thankfulness by proclamation.
But all who have learned-to-beag-life’s trials, worriments and
disappointments. with Christian fortitude, who have cultivated through trying br Dae a heroic, optimistic and
" grateful disposition, and, who can see a silver lining behind
every cloud, will join their. praises on this occasion with the)
many thousands of their fellow men for the many blessings
which have attended“them through sunshine and shadow.
In short, everybody has something to be thankful for.
If you cannot feel thankful:for anything more, by all means

The concert given last night at the

was largely attended and all present
were more than well pleased with the
program. From a financial point of
view the ladies have every cause to
feel yratified over the result, and thay
can also have the pleasing satisfaction
of knowing that, the programme presented was a meritorious one, the efforts of all taking part in the exercises
being well received. The proceeds
will go far toward paying the expense
of eonstructing a copiog around the

aroused the citizens, who hastened to the scene. The bank
