Merrill, who has rerided in this city for a number of yeare, breathed his last at 7 o'clock this morning, after a lingering illness with consumption. About five years ago Mr, Merrill was the victim of a serious accident at the Providence mine, by being caved on. His spine was badly injured. and he was otherwise bad{y cut and bruised, confining hi to his home for about a year. Si that time he has been crippled up and unable to follow the occupation of a miner. About two years ago he was appointed City Poundmaster, and has attended to the duties of the ‘office in a creditable manner. The deceased was ® man who was respected and esteemed by all with whom he became acquainted, and they will learn with sorrow of bis death. Mr, Merr'll bas been confined to his bed for several days, and although death was nct unexpected, the end came quite suddenly, as he was feeling much better yesterday. Deceased was a native of Missouri, and aged 56 years, 5 months and 28 days.
