The South Yuba Water Company’s new reservoir and pipe line on Town Talk ridge is completed and in use. A large reservoir was dug out on a flat on top of the ridge, fully half way up the side of Banner mountain, whence the water is conducted through a mile and a half of 22-inch pipe to the Brunswick mine. George W. Stilwell, who died a few days ago in Oakland, was a banker and
assayer in the early fifties at the town of Alleghany, Sierra county. It was under Stilwell’s building there that John W. Mackey drove his first tannel: and he introduced Mackey tothe pretty young widow of Dr. Bryan whom Mr. Mackey married later. e@e caped from the bedroom by a window. Mr. Geiger had in a cupboard in the . kitcher. six feet from the stove, nine sticks of giant powder and sixty giant powder caps, which he intended to use in blowing up stumps on bis land. The fire started in the woodbox, then comamunicated to the caps, the explosion of which latter fired the powder. A door leading into the pantry was torn to splinters and one leading to the living room. was forced from its fastenings. The kitchen farniture and utensils were wricked and battered. A young pigeon in the kitchen at the time had its feathers singed off and died two and 4 half hours later. ‘A number of windows in the front of the house were shattered by the coucussion.
