The story of Jules Verne’s courtship and marriage is a most romantic one. Verne was a shy young fellow who had a great dislike to the society of women, and it was only his affection for his brother which led him to go to the latter’s wedding. Verne, however, arrived too late and found that the whole bridal party had left for the church with the exception of the bride’s sister, a charming young widow, who explained the matter. The friendship thus aceidentally begun rapidly developed into a warmer feeling and ended in a marriage which may be described as ideai. The interior of the Oriental saloon, Palmer & Johnson proprietors, is receiving a fresh coat of paint, Miss Bertha Gardner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F, Gardner of San Francieco, and a sister of Mrs. M. A. Preston of this city, will be-wedded during Ohristmas week to Dr. Donald H. Ross of Reno, Nevada, Miss Gardner visited this oclty last summer, The National and Annex of this city is noted for its excellent accommodations, Traveling people and others speak very highly of the way this hostelry is conducted. Everything possible is done to make the guests feel at home, and all the modern conveniences have been established in the ‘place. The Sanday dinners are gotten up in grand style. The Orleans-Potosi mine on Gold Flat, of which W. B. Gillingham, a competent mining engineer, is superintend ent, is taking out excellent ore from the No. 1 level and the same is being crushed ‘at the Gold Tanne) mill, The new hoisting and pumping plant is completed and in operation and shaft No. 2 is well under way. The work of opening up the rich deposits that have heretofore been but superficially developed in that district will now go ahead witha will. At the Federal Loan mine fourteen men are employed, under the superintendency of Harrison Ogden, and good ore ie being extracted from the seventh level and rock enough in sufficient quantities is coming from the mine to keep the ten-stamp mill on the property running steadily night and day. ° Weather Report. He mined on Selby Flat and in other diggings, and recalls with pleasure the flash days of long ago.
