Democrat: Ever since Dennis Kearney originated the sand lot meetings of 1878 to 1880 certain people in San Francisco wésort to public meetings as means of redress when anything unusual happens in that city in the way of crime, Recently charges have been made against certain men in that wicked city which indicate that they have debauched young girls. A public. meeting was called to denounce the men accused and to reprimand the police and officers for permitting such acts. The mieeting was held then adjourned to discuss it on the streets. These unwise raids simply give publicity and warn the evil doers to be on their guard, which makes the task of detection all the more difficult, while not the least good is derived as the result, well, no donbt, yet if they would exercise the same energy by quietly going “to work among the suspects investigating the charges they could be of far greater benetit to the community. When Dr. Horatio Stebbins was asked to attend the meeting and speak he declined, but wrote a letter in which the following words appear: ‘‘One of the most sorrowful things of society is the number of those who have no home or none of the care, authority and obedience that makes home a citadel of protection and peace, In this sorrowful fact old wickedness and young sins hold their carnival, procuresses play their devilish arts, and chattering fiends tend their tires of hell, But home-life, security and manners are not established by public discussion of the These people mean —___ — + +e More Electricity For Sacramento. That the residents of Cal:fornia would take as great delight in view= ing our lakes and trout in summer. No effort has ever been made to attract travel, Those visitors who came to skate and sleigh ride had to take chances on landing here in. } a snow storm when ice ponds were covered with snow and roads were unbroken. There was no one to, take any interest in them, and they generally failed to find the sport they had expected: This winter the railroad company has announced its intention of running excursions to Truckee and a few of our citizens are trying to awaken enthusiasm in regard to plans for entertaining the excurStewart McKay and C. Prediction That the World Is. Now Coming fo an End. Elder Eibert, a leading exponent of the belief of the Seventh Day Adventists, says: **We Seventh Day Adventists believe the present Turkish crisis foreshadows the end of the world, the destruction of its kingdoms and the second coming of Jesus Christ. We base our belief upon the fulfilment of prophecy, aud see in the present movements of the nations the gathering together of the nations to fight the last great battle of the centuries—the battle of Armageddon, “The Ottoman power, or Mohammedan power, is the one meant in the ninth chapter of Revelations, to which was to be given a power to torment men five months, or 150 years in prophetic time, when it was to gain supremacy and be given power to kill men The Ortoman empire fultills all these conditions, for it was founded*by Othman, July 27, 1299, and for 150 years tormented men, when it became supreme until August 11, 1840. When the 391 years and fifteen days ended it killed the third part of men, as prophesied, when 391 years and fifteen days, its power was dried up to prepare the way of the Kings of the Lost, which was fulfilled when France, Russia, Prussia and England forced their ultimatum on the Mohammedan power August 11, 1840. Thus was fulfilled the first part of the vision of the sixth vial, “The three uncertain spirits were then loosed and went forth to deceive the nation, and they are spiritualism, nihilism and. infidelity, and they are doing their work well, They are gathering the nations together to the great battle of Armageddon, The King of the South—possibly the English power— after overrunning Egypt, Soudan and Turkey, will the glorious Holy Mountain, m the Holy Land, and the nations will be compelled to bring their encamp in mighty armies and munitions of war against this power and will eacamp in the plains of Armageddon, “The nations are now moving towards that. battlefield, and all their terrible implements of modern warfare will be there when the seventh vial is poured, when the battle of Armageddon, which is described in symbols-in Revelation, 16th chapter, 17th and 21st verses, will result. The great city of the nations will be that tented field, and it will be divided into three parts—the Roman power, the Mohammedan power and the other powers represented, “The hail spoken of means cannen balls, the earth on the explosion of the batteries, and the lake of fire and brimstone will be the battlefield’itself. It will be a battle of annihilation, and the kingdoms of the world The United States will probably not be represented iu this battle, but will be among the rémnant When this battle occurs,*as it shortly must, its climax ‘will be the second coming of Christ. *“The end of all things is even now at the will go down to rise no more, left to be destroyed afterward, door, and nations cannot long suppress the Turkish complications, as the unrest of nations is urging them on to bring about these things, for fear of which nations are trembling. Thé time is near; watch!” Poi etecke esse The Post Company. James F, Post and company gave two more excellent performances at the Theatre’ and Thursday evenings, the comedies interpreted being ‘‘Two of a Kind” and ‘‘A Strange Family.”
