Frofitable Results.
Periodically the idea that the beds of
mined for gold by the dredging pro.
cess becomes prevalent in certain quarters, and expensive experiments in that
line are undertaken. Miners generally .
view them with incredulity, and so far
fhe results have verified their judgment, For several months past a Pos:
tlethwaite dredger has been stationed
on the Yuba below Smartsville, but so
faras can be learned no gold worth
mentioning has béen taken out.
It is claimed bowever by, the Trinity .
Journal that a dredger of the same pat. 15
tern costing over $40,000 has been. “sucthat county. The Journal says: “It
requires but two men to look after every detail of its work, and the dimount .
of deposit it handles in a day is large
Four miles of the stream are controlled.
. As a result of this company’s venture .
the possibilities of Trinity River on}
this score have attracted attention, and
two other companies, it is said, are investigating along these lines.” In spite
of the Journal’s statement, we are still
as skeptical as ever on the dredger
proposition. At the same time we con.
fess that it can be made to look very .
seductive on its face to people who know \
nothing about river mining in a practi.
cal way, but have money that they are .
anxious to invest in the business. It. .
will take evidence in the way of some .
good clean-ups by the dredgers to re-.
move this prejudice.

You don’t know what the Creator did

sugar-coated thing a woman is, join the
army. Join the army as -I did—see
nething but men from morning till
night. Join the army and loaf with the
men, eat with the men, talk with the
men, walk over men, shoot men, succor
men, see men, menand nothing but men.

the 10th. This cool wave will go into
the Southern States with considerable
force and willbe a “norther” for that
country. Very cold weather will follow . this storm in the Northern States.
Previous bulletins have announced . .
that December would average above
normal temperature, but you may look
for great extremes. The first half of
the month will average very cold, particularly in the Northern States.
Cold waves have no regard for manmade calendars and thereforé do not
respect the lines between months.
This cold spell will begin November
28th, and end about December 12th.
In this-general bulletin I cannot give
dates for all localities and therefore
the dates for these storm waves, when
not otherwise definitely stated, are for
the 90th meridian which is about the
general course of the Mississippi river.
These disturbances wil! arrive at
points west of that line from one to
three days earlier and at points east of
it from one to three days later.
