Causing Dissatisfaction.
The récent action of the Supreme Council of the Order of Chosen Friends, deciding
that hereafter only one-half of the face
value of insurance, policies shall be paid, has
caused considerable dissatiefaction among
members of the order throughout the country. Many members have deserted the
ravks, and it is feared that unless radical
‘measures are adopted the existence of the
order will be seriously affected.

Of late considerable mischief. has been
done at the fire hofise of Pennsylvania Engine Company, No. 2, by children and
others, The janitor has been greatly annoyed thereby, as the plice is littered up
and made filthy soon after‘he finishes putting it in a tidy. condition. The fire house
is not intended as a play house, and parents
shouid keep their children from playing
there, Neither is it intended as a hog pen,
although some hogs in human form, doubtless while drunk, have committed nuisances
there of whichmo decent person would be
guilty. The the above fire

MILLIONS IN GOLD
Being Shipped to Europe by ° Every
Steamer. .
Five million dollars in gold were shipped
to Europe last week. This large shipment
at a season when gold ought, in the ordivary
course of trade, to be coming this way cannot be attributed to an adverse balance of
trade. The financial disturbances in Europe
create a demand for gold and American securities are thrown upon the market. The
fact that American indebtness in Europe is
equal, or about equal, to the entire store of
gold money in the world, should shake the
faith of gold monometallists in the assumption that there is gold enoigh in the world
to do the world’s business, A probable result of this shipment will be a fresh issue of
bonds, The. United States will -make
anvther bid for European gold. We had
to pay a pretty high price for gold in February, but the condition of the’European. gold
market warrants a higher price now. In
fact, gold is the only thing in the world that
is steadily rising in value. Its nominal
price remains the same, but the rise makes
the same, but the rise makes itself felt in
the fall of other products. Debts are payable in dollars, or whatever may be the unit
of value in. the several counties. When

the business blocks and residences for sale
will be the Lones Building, corner Pine and
Commercial street,the grocery storg on
Convmercial street, also a saloon, three residence on Bréad ‘streets, several residences on
West Broad and Spring Streets, etc. Also
the Wells dairy ranch.
