Charles Mumaugh, candidate for Coroner, was first introduced. He is a good deal of a humorist and his droll witticisms evéked much laughter, _° Charles W. Kitts, the Assem bly candidate, spoke next. He outlined the principles and beliefs of the People’s party. He maintained that the Demo-. eratic party should give him its support this year to the exclusion of its own candidate, who he urged is too young and inexperienced for such a place. He based his claim to Democratic votes on the ground that two ‘years ago he had while making the Canvass for State Senator discovered that if he stayed in the fight both he sand the Democratic aspirant would be defeated by the Republican nominee; that he had in order to advance the interests of the free silver cause drawn out of the fight and by bringing about a coalition of the Democratic and Populist votes of the district on that office, secured the election of the Demoerat. He believed that for this “magnanimity” o2 his part, as he termed it, the Democracy should now rally around his standard, He seemed to think there was a strong probability of his election. The third candidate to come forward was J, J, Jackson who is making the fight for ‘Treasurer. He made a\ straightforward, business-like talk and was liberally applauded by his many when he gets up before the footlights, friends in the meeting. William’ Delbridge, candidate for Publie Administrator, spoke last. He talked mainly on the silver “question and hie speech was a surprise. He presented his ideas clearly and has an excellent address. * eee ~7ee Philippine islands Minerals. Admiral Dewey has forwarded the Navy Department a memorandum of the mineral resources of the Philippines, prepared by Prof, G. F. Becker, United who happen to be on deck. The meeting will be Such a jolly affair that it ought, to pack every nook and cranny of the theater. Of course there---won’tbe much gilt-edged -eloquence outside of Col. speech but there will be a whdle ‘lot of the candidates in a concise, snappy manner, and Jobnny Werry and Fred Arbogast will do some sentimental and comic singing worth going a long way to hear. ae There will bea Stage full of talkers, but they are all under bonds t6 speak briefly and say something, Assembly man Robinson, whose election is as good as assured, will of course make the main political argument so far asthe candidates are concerned and he can be depended upon to make a good showing for he isa ‘houghtful man who has had experience in the legislative halls. 2 D.B. Getchell, one of the very best Sheriffs the people of this county ever had, is not so much of an orator as he is worker, but what he has to say will be said in the same direct and fearless manner that he performs his official duties. Theodore H. Wilhelm, the party’s Dominee for Assessor, is famous for his good stories and an effort will be made to prevail on him to spin some of them Mr. Wilhem is making a winning fight all along the line. The people recognize his capability. ‘ F. L. Arbogust, our next County Clerk as his many friends figure it out, not only sings well, but he can make a good “spiel” as his fellow candidates testify. Everybody who knows him is convinced he will make a model county clerk, One of the best speech-makers of the party is E. B. He came here from his native country in the early fifties, and lived with his wife, three daughters and son on Spring street. He was a tailor by trade, but did not follow that occupa: tion, ' Instead he was in the employ of Thomas Buckner at the El Dorado, a sporting house.
