It is evident that the campaign liars in this instance have purposely misconstrued particular portions of Governor Henry T. Gage’s recent speech at -San Francisco and attempted to place him in a false light with the voters. the lie has been “nailed,” as the following will show : Go the Yevada City. Granseript:San Francisco, Nov. 3.—The following telegram just received: “ Los Angeles, rola Nov. 3, 1902.—To Mr. Charles H. Spear, Palace Hotel, San Francisco, Calif.: It is reported to me that some people are making unwarranted use of the fact that in my introductory remarks at the Republican rally here Saturday night I failed to refer to Dr. Pardee by name. I did refer to him in common with my other friends upon the Republican State ticket, and asked that the power of the Republican party might be perpetuated . § through the medium of a phenomenal majority on the coming 4th of November for the entire Republican ticket. Such misconstructions of my words are infamous. You and thous: ands of others were present on that Saturday night in Mechanics Pavilion in San Francisco when I said that I hoped Dr. Pardee would be elected as the successor of myself in office. Thereafter at Bakersfield I said the following of our Republican standard bearer: He is a brilliant man, a man of rare character and worth and I hope that Dr. Pardee I theant what I said in Mechanies Pavilion, I meant what I said at Bakersfield a my views have remained unchanged.” “HENRY T. GAGE. Cuas. H. Sprar, Chairman Campaign Seal A PARDEE AND REEVE The’ Examiner Comes Out Sttonely Fo These Republican Candidates. San Francisco, November 4.—Considerable stir was occasioned in political circles this morning when the fact was made known that the San Francisco Examiner had come out openly in today’s issue and declared for Dr. Geo. C. Pardee, the Republican candidate for Governor, and Truman B. Reeves, the Republican candidate for State Treasurer. The Examiner not only indorses these two Republican candidates . but alse strongly urges their election by the voters of the State. As the Examiner is the leading organ of the Union Labor Party of San Francisco, it is predicted that this endorsement will carry weight in to-day’s election. General ecto Hees. The election today wae conducted in a quiet, but epergetic way, The many friende of the candidates were in evi-.
dence on all sides, and carriages were going in all directions conveying the voters to their respective precincts Whatever the outcome maybe, you can depend that the voters believe that they have done their duty. In this’ election politics have been cast aside in regard to the-county nominees, because of the regard that seme voters have for their friends: Bat whatever the verdict maybe, it will be accepted by those whio are well-meaning. This afternoon a wagon gaily decerated with the cards of the Republioan candidates and a dog drewing the vehicle, attracted, much attention on the street. The outfit was a novel one. The vote cast in Nevada Oity was unusually heavy for a State and Oounty election, showing that people have studied matters and voted accordingly. The streets were crowded all the afternoon with earnest citizens, positive ‘that they were right in their opinion. At 8:80 o’clgck this afternoon the vote cact in the different precincts in this city compared with the registration was as follows: Precinct No. 1, at Pleza—Voted, 210; registration, 271.
