An Afflicted Woman Puts Down
\ Her Burden.
The Call says that last Sunday
John Cammett obtained permission of the authorities at the Napa
Asylum for the Insane to take Susan Cammett, his wife, who had
been an inmate of that institution
for many years, to San‘Francisco,
she having improved so much as
to warrant her discharge on probation. He took her to 1714 Clay
street. Tuesday afternoon, Lida,
her 13-year-old daughter, ‘returned from school, and going into a
room found Mrs. Cammet in bed.
She was acting so strangely that
she became alarmed and summoned the. landlady, who sent for a
physician; but before he came
Mrs. Cammetadied. -On the table
in the room was found a sheet of
note paper, on which was written:
“To My Husband: You ‘have
always been kind and good. I
have always been a _ millstone
around your neck. Iam the most
unhappy woman living. I might
live for years. My eyes are almost
blind. I have wished and_ tried
many times to leave this world;

“Take care of my Lida. . One
more Cammett to go after. I wish
you had never seen me, then all
this trouble would never have
happened.”’
The deceased wasa native of
Massachusetts, 56 years of « age.
Mr. and Mrs. Cammett formerly
lived at Rough and Ready where
he was engaged in prospecting ‘the

made their home for some time at
the National Hotel in this city.
A Book for the Times.
“Werth and Wealth, oc the Art
of Getting, Saving and Using Money,’’ is the title of.a new work recently issued from the press of
Haines Brothers, Chicago, Illinois. We have read many books
in our day, but have seldom met
with one of. greater value than
this. The writer, T. L. Haines,
brings to the work the qualifications not only of.a ripe scholar but
& successful author. As its name
implies, it treatsof subjects which
are of the greatest importance to
the weal of mankind, and -it can
be truthfully said that it covers
the whole field. in a systematic
and comprehensive manner, bet
ter than any similar work which
has yet appeared. It deals with
the practical affairs of life and the
great questions lying all along the
line of accumulation. As everybody is more or less interested in
business or engaged in making a
livelihood with.an. outlook toward
a future fortune, a bovk of this
character must prove of inestimable value to all.

Death of Nora Gray.
Nora A. Gray, youngest daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Geo. F. Gray
of Piety Hill, died shortly after
three o’clock yesterday morning
at the residence of J. M. Buffington near the Wyoming mine. She
was a pupil in the public. schools,
and it had beeh her custom to
spend each-Saturday and Sunday
with Mrs. Buffington and the latter’s children between whom and
Nora there existed a warm friendship. Three weeks ago this evening she went there as usual.
Next day she was taken so ill that
she cou!d not be removed to her
home. No serious results were
anticipated, however, till within a
day or two of her death, the direct
cause of which was an affection of
the heart. The funeral will take
place at two o’clock Sunday afternoon from the Congregational
Church. Nora was a dutiful
daughter,a bright pupil, and withala truly lovable girl. . Her death
casts a deep shadow over a wide
circle Of friends.
Mysteriously Disappeared.
Rev. J. Sims, District Attorney
Long, Depaty County Treasurer
Werry and several other gentlemen who attended the entertainment at Michell’s Hall Wednesday evening lost their hats, while
two or three pair of overshoes and
other articles: left in the anteroom are also missing. Of course
these things must have been taken by mistake, and if the parties
having them will return them
they willearn the everlasting
gratitude of the losers. One man
evidently made the mistake ot
wearing two hats off, the District
Attorney being obliged to go home
bare-headed.
