[NUMBER THREE. ] ® THE DELAWARE GRAVEL MINE, This mine is the consolidation of the West Harmony. and, Tip Top properties, all interests in these two claims having recently been purchased by Hon. Robert “McMurray. It lies immediately west of the original (now designated as the east Harmony. The West Harmony shaft is about 300 feet east of the Tip Top ground. As it is the intention to open up this ground through the above mentioned shaft and as the channel at the lower end of the Tip Top ground is about fifty feet lower than the West Harmony tunnel it will be necessary to sink the shaft about 118 feet deeper. atan angle of about 25} degrees. This will secure a level about fifty feet verticle below the level of. the West Harmony tunnel which will enable the company to work all of the Tip. Top ground. When this shaft is completed it will be 700 feet in length, with a vertical depth of 300 féet. After the shaft is down‘it will be necessary to run 700 feet of tunnel in order to reach the channel in the Tip Top ground. The old shaft has been repaired and a*sump made, from which the pumping done in order to drain all the. water from the old levels. Work is being is “being pushed as speedily as possible under ground, . men working eight-hour shifts only, but it will be several months before any pay gravel is taken out. The timbers for the development work are arriving daily and provision is being made looking to the substitution of steam in case the winter storms should close the ditches that supply the mine with water power, in order that the development work may not be impeded, Although the working force is comparatively small at present, yet4s many are employed in this mine as can be handled ‘in the development work that is being done. Nine men only ‘are at work here now, but when the channel is reached in the Tip Top ground this number will certainly be largely augménted and the Delawaré pay-days wili then become ‘‘days for rejoicing” rapidly p: ogressing burg. _———————_+2 Oe--_____ BY TELEPHONE, The Latest Events at Grass Valley Up fo 4-0'clock This Afternon. The Boy Wizard Company have given quite general satisfaction during their visit to this city, and the public demonstrations exceeded the expectations of most people.
