Wednesday Night's Attraction.
The conrse of "Managera Delcher and
pisinessy. with reference to their new
-farce, “Brown's in. Town,” which will
be the attraction at the theatre here
néxt Wednesday evening, illustrates
he state of theatrical affairs in New
saa York city, as compared with the condi; $3020.42 the. amount of their second . yng existing elséwhers. Hitherto it
has been considered by theatrical managers that to make their play, be it
comedy, tragedy, or just. plain foolishness, draw on the. road, @ New York ran
as absolutely necessary, and to gain
the prestige of a metropolitan endorseent which might pass current outside
of that interesting city, a great many
managers have kept ‘their attractions
running there long after the playing
ublic had ceased to patronize them,
It will be remembered that the comedy,
“What Happened to Jones,” went to
New York early in its career and after
the necessary prestige had been accuulated the tour of the outside world
was.continued with success. “Brown’s
in'Town” had been played in all the
principal cities of the West before going to the metropolis, and while there
was not as much glory attached to the
success élsewhere as to the success iu
New York, it is vastly more profitable,
and if the prestige of aNew York ran has
waned there will be many a good play
produced which has been held back
awaiting the endorsement once considred absolutely. necessary.

for any singular achievements, The
man paused and considered, buticould

“Your father,” said the herald, aid{ng bis memory, “your grandfather,

“No,” returned the applicant, “I never knew that I had a great-grandfather

“Of yourself?’ asked this creator of"
dignity.

for debt 1 found means to escape from
an upper window, and that, you know,

“and how did you get down?” said
the herald.
