E STOCKWines,
Wrat I nae About the Mines
at Ohat District.
The Wadswortli Dispatch of the 8th
inst. bas the following story: When
gold glitters on the side of a hill so it
is noticeable in the sunlight the
country is rich, and such is the case in
Olinghouse canyon. On the eabin
claim of W. ©. Williams where ore, was
found on the surface in such quantity
that the miners dubbed it “gold
quarry” and the,owner milled $40,000
few
-}out of it without getting out of daylight, it was deemed: remarkable, but
that pales into insignificance along side
the latest discovery made on the same
claim. For an era .of two acres a
into sacks, and a most conservative
estimate of its values by the miners is
$25 per ton aver2ge. These estimates
are careful because the horn unfailingly shows up from 10 cente to $2.
This little old mining claim in Olinghouse hardly noticed by the outside
world, and worked by Chinese, is making a record for surface production
fast approaching the richest mines ever
known on the Comstock or elsewhere.
Comparatively no work has been done
to develope it and the surface is only
scratched but the amount of gold produced ought to be an eyeopener. The
best mining talent we have measures
the new find at $80,000 on the surface
and nowin sight. In removing this
gold bearing surface it is thought the
source of the gold supply will be uncovered, in which case it is reasonable
to suppose it will be of fabulous richness. The gold is coarse, mostly the
size of a pin head and from thatto a
pea. Asample of one ton of ledge
matter from the Forlorn Hope, taken
outside of.the pay streak and reduced
five pounds of concentrates, value not
-. Known yet. The pay streak in this
mine runs from two to eight inches
and assays from $226 per ton up. The
shaft is down 220 feet with values from
top to bottom. The Short Bros. ruo
ten tons from the No.1 gave $25 per
ton. The last run made from Hutchinson gave mint returns ef $40 per
ton. The new hoist is being put in
Place at the shaft. The pay streak is
eight inches wide and improving. The
mine promises to be asteady producer
for some time to come. The Cabin
No. 2 lower tunnel has encountered
the ledge and another large body of
ore will be blocked out. The recent
milling of Cabin ore at the Ora mill
gave $700 in bullion. The camp is
flourishing from one end to the other
and with the water that will come
with the wet season to permit steady
milling until next summer the output
of gold will be greater than ever before.

Che Clerks Meet.
Bry tine. Movement Discussed-—Plan to Be Adopted.
The clerks at the several stores in
this city held an enthusiastic meeting
last night, and discussed the pro-.
posed early-closing movement. A
committee was appointed to draft bylaws and report at the next meeting,
which will be held on Thursday evenng of this week. At that time
jarrangements will be taade to send
a committee to the business men for
signatures to the 6 o’clockclosing . ;
petition. It is generally understood
that most of the merchants are willing
to adopt the new plan.
The m ovement is one that should receive the practical support of all who
are conducting business houses io
our city, and the moral aid of every
man and woman who has occasion to
deal with our merchants. The stores
. here open in the morning at7 o’clock:
g2. and close again about 10 at night.
00 . If that isnot a long day’s work then } fy
00 . we are muchly mistaken.
learly closing will be a little disladvantageous until the people : get
used to jt, but the plan has been found
to work all right in other places, and
why should it not suit in Nevada
