MARYSVILLE, Ohio, October 15,—Roaslyn Serrell, whois on'trial for the murder of an Adams Express messenger, . Obarles Laue, last Augast, has made a written confession. He ‘admits that he shot Lane and robbed the car: ‘The confession is said to be a remarkable and sensational document, which goes} into all the details of the crime, in. Sy motive for the robbery was the desire to secure money in order to hasten his marriage to Miss Lillian Costello of Columbus. Serrell was arrested two days after the crime had been com mitted. The young lady has been subpoenaed asa witness for the prosecution. The only defense is insanity. : End of the Strike. . ScRANTON, Pa., Oct., 16.—That there is a positive assurance of the end of the strike seems certain today, in view of. the preparations which are being made all through the Lackawanna for the re. sumption of the work. The coal compenies are crowding their mine sidings with empty cars, s0'as to be prepared for the great demind for coal which will necessitate the running of the mines and breakers to their untmost capacity for weeks in order to get the stock ahead to meet the winter demand. Sensational Trial. Groraerown, Ky., October 16.—The trial of Henry Youtsey, on the charge of complicity in the Goebel assassination, was resumed today, although Youtsey’s condition was unchanged. He was placed on a bed, which was pulled up . to. a doorway in the Gourt-room in plain view. Wharton Golden was: the first witness to take the stand. Golden said he never told Rev. John Stamper or Mrs. Stamper that he was to get $5000 for his testimony, nor that if he could see Colonel Campbell he could get $10,000. He denied all the statements attributed # him by the Stampers, L. E. Sinclair and others. eee Personal Mention, T. W. L, Gaffney, the stage man, was plowing a field near North San Juan yesterday, and in the evening was taken suddenly ill. Dr. Muller of this city went over and found Mr. Gaffney suffering from congestion of the lungs. He was somewhat better this morning and was brought to this city this afternoon. Opening Days.
