The Elleford Company Continues to Give

Stirring plays and good acting have resulted in the Elleford Company doing a big
business at Nevada Theater this week. It is
not often a company with the prestige of
this one pays us a visit, but when they do
they are well patronized. ‘‘The Blue and
the Gray ” was the play produced last night,
cand those who’ stayed away, under the im‘pression that they had séen the play before, '
missed a great treat, Other dramas have
been played under this suggestive title, but
‘all are much below this original ‘‘Blue and

who really shone in his part last night and
made an impression that many will long remember, W., J, Elleford was really good
as the jolly, good-natured soldier, and
made his character stand out well, Miss
Norton was very successful in an arduous
part, and.carried the sympathies of the

sprinkled with comedy, will be played

Things Have Changed.
Wecessity is the mother. of invention,
ways.an oid saw. Invention, however, is
sometimes the*result of accident, and some‘times of circumstances. The first inventors

‘the style changed and something else was
devised, Things have changed somewhat

ffruit diet, and remarkable as it may seem,
mothing has since been invented that can
exactly take its place. Articles of food
generally, however, have been greatly improved. If you want the best of everything

Shooting Affray at Emigrant Gap.

At Emigrant Gap Wednesday Ed Smith
shot his brother-in-law, John Deuel,
through the right lung. It seems that Deuel
and-Smith had not been. on the best of
ternis for some time and. on Wednesday. the
former went to the latter's house. Deuel
used very hard language towards Smith,
whereupon the latter shot him. Deuel is
dangerously woundg@i and his recovery is
somewhat doubtful. The sentiment at Emigrant Gap is strongly in favor of Smith,

On the .tirst page of today’s TRANSCRIPT
we publish two. illustrations showing views
at the Electric Power Company's works, out
on the South Yuba, One is a picture of the
power house site, and shows where the pipe
comes down from the flume to the water
wheel that will drive the electrical machinery. “The other view shows the river at
low water a short distance above the location of the dam that was built this summer,
Both views are from cuts that were used in
illustrating the Nevada County Directory
recently published by J.E. Poingdestre,
and for which Fred E, Brown: of this city
now has tlie exclusive agency.

It May Do as Much for You.
Mr. Fred Miller, of Irving, Ill., writes
many years, with severe pains in his . back
and also that his bladder was affected. He
tried many so called Kidney cures but without any good result.” About a year ago he
began use of Electric Bitters and found relief at once. Electric Bitters is especially
adapted to cure of all Kidney and Liver
troubles and often gives almost instant relief. One trial will prove our statement.

A Close Call,
The Truckee Republican is creditably informed that Governor Budd, who is rusticating at Alta Station as the guest of Col.
Doolittle, was given an overdose of morphine by a physician at that place last
Saturday, and for a time the chances for
his recovery seemed very slim to the attending physician and the Governor’s
friends. With great difficulty, however,
they finally succeeded in again bringing
him back to his natural state. Governor
Budd may ‘consider himself a lucky man.
The Governor and his friends have been
trying to keep the matter as quiet as possible, but the Republican managed to find
it out,
