Mrs. Norris's Persistent Search For Her
Dead. Uncle's Bonanza.
Mrs. CG. E Norris, a teacher ina business college at Stockton, and Miss E.
A. Smally of the same city arrived here
from. Sierra county on last night’s
stage, being en routehome. They have
been at the old Cornish Ranch on the
Henness Pass route searching for a
bonanza that Mrs, Norris has a notion
lies hidden away in the mountain fastnesses of that desolate section. It is
the second trip she has made to the
ranch quite lately, The lady who went
with her the first time is said to have
claimed some occult power that wonld
lead her directly to what was wanted,
but of ‘course the trip was unsuccessful.
It is supposed that Miss Smally also
claims to be able to perform such
feats, but she too has been unsaccessfal according to the reports of the.
ladies themselves.
As the story goes, long years ago the
proprietor of Cornish Ranch was prospecting around one day when he found
a marvelously rich ledge of gold ore.
The rock was sparkling all over with
the royal metal. Just after that he was
taken ill with a fever, and when a little
later he passed to the great unknown
the secret of the rich deposit’s. whereabouts died with bim.
