LOCAL MATTER. Republican Committee Meeting. The Executive Committee of the Republican County Central Committee met at this city yesterday and adopted the following: __. Whereas, The County Central Committee called tie county. nominating convention to meet on Thursday, Auzust 30th, which dateis in the middle of Fair week, and this committee having been empowered by the general committe to transact any business that might be necessary’: therefore, be it— Resolved, That the date of said convention be changed to Tuesday, Aug-4 ust 28th, at the same hour and place; and that. the newspapers publishing the cell for tne convention be requested to make the necessary correction. The commi tee also issued a call for the Republican voters of Nevada township to meet at the Theater on Wed* THE NIGHT-SHIRT POCKET. ‘a Small Doy Makes a Mag>"'>« of It, The precocityof eight-year . oyshas often been the theme for new — ereomment, but I think ! know of one whois entitled to particular distifection for his brightness. The other day befmportaned his mamma for a night-sbirt, ‘‘just liko Sa0,/ papa’s,”” with a pocket init. His mother made him one, and the first night ho wore it he went to bed in high glee. In the morning, when his mother toox the robe off she found in the one pocket a couple of seed cakes, three matches, a toothpick, a small silver watch. several pieces of cough candy and the boy's pocket handkerchief. When the little fellow was questioned as to the reason for the very varied assortment, he replied: “Well, I thought if I got hungry in the night time I would need the seed cafes, and of course I'd want the toothpick afterward; if I wanted tosee what time it was by my watch . would have to have a match, and I was afraid of coughing, so I put the candy there.” His excuses were equal to his preparations at any rate. Dismal Humorists. We have rather too many dismal humorists in literaturejustnow. ‘ The success of a few genuine humorists has tempted whole flocks of dullards into the fielus of fun, aud they are fast converting it intoaliterarycemetery, peopled with tae ghosts of departed pleasantries. If funny lecturers and funny sketch writers would only rive us the dead jokes of long ago in their habits as they lived, the resurrection would be more tolerable; but they dress them up to suit their own conceits, and in so doing take Celery Compound will do it. life once more.
