‘THURSDAY, AUGUST 13, 1885.
LOCAL MATTEBS.
An Unréliable Testimonial.
Rev. Geo. Newton’s Holiness
people have fitted up thirty rooms
in the old Adelphi Theatre, in San
Francisco, and established it as a
hospital where they intend to cure
the sick by means of faith, prayer
and anointing with oil. In giving
the Chronicle an account of the
doings, Mr. Newton mentioned the
case of a ‘Mrs. Rider, of Grass
Valley, who had been so. distressed with sickness and pain for two
rflonths that she longed to die.
Fight days ago she was miraculously healed by faith and prayer,
and was now quite well.’ The
fact is that Mrs. Rider shows no
signs of recovery, indeed her condition has at no time been more
alarming than now. She has the
heart disease. Mr. Newton, who
is so quick to accuse secular newspapers of making incorrect and
sensational statements, should
himself go alittle slow: All humans are liable to err, no matter
if they belong to Holiness Bands
or newpaper offices, and Mr. Newton, who belongs to both, is no exception to the rule.
Jail Notes.
John Davis (‘‘Red Jack’’), serving outa term for disturbing the
peace, had a bad attack of ‘‘snakes’’
* yesterday. ° It was for several
hours impossible to keep any
clothes on him.
Frank Coyle, hailing from the
vicinity of Pike City, got on a tear
at Grass Valley, and yesterday he
was brought to jail to serve outa
ten day term, He isa tough louking customer.

What a Pity
That the otherwise beautiful girl
should have such bad teeth. And
because she did not use SOZODONT. It costs so little to buy it
considering tne good it does, and
its benefits stretch out into her
future life. Poor girl! je23-5w

THEY ARE SPLENDID GOODS.
It-is claimed that the causes of the superiority of
Scotch goods over all others, are:
Heather produces aclass of wool which for fineness
of texture, strength and durability, cannot be matched in any other portion of the world. That the mineral properties of the water there fastens the colors
in unfading brilliancy; and that the cunning and patience and industry of the canny Scotsmen beats the
