Beware ef Counterfeiters
Who infest the market and are the means
of robbing sick people of their money, and
what is of still greater consequence of not
unfrequently aggravating the complaints
under which they labor, It is an act of duty
we owe to society to warn the people against
these dangerous frauds, A little care on the
part of the purchaser will protea’t them from
imposition by bearing in mind these facts :
Never buy where it is offered in bulk, (in
kegs or jugs) as the genuine Hostetter’s
Stomach Bitters are sold only in bottles having the handsome steel plate label displaying the combat between St. George and the
Dragon, and having at the bottom a miniature note of hand for une cent, bearing a
facsimile of the signature of the president of
the company, Over the cork is a metallic
cap, on which is impressed the name of the
article, together with a medallion head in
the center. Any person selling the counterfeit Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters we shall
not hesitate to bring to justice, as we never
fail to convict.

RAILROAD LANDS.
What a Contemporary Says About the
Controversy.
. ‘Frdings: A, H. Ricketts, of the Land
Committee of the State Miners Association,
recently submitted a form of agreement pertaining to a settlement of questions at issue
between the Railroad Company and the
Miners Association, This ugreement W,
H, Mills, of the Railroad Company, accepts
with minor amendments. It néw seems
probable that before the time for the meetState Association the agreement
in shape to be ratified by that body.
he proposed agreement seems to be a
great concession on the part of the Railroad Company, The question as to the
character of all lands concerning which
there is a contest, shall be left to a commission ., composed of a representative ‘of
the Miners Association and of the Railroad
Company. If the two representatives cau
not agree they:shall select a third commissioner, and a decision of the majority of
the commission shall determine the matter
so,far as the two. interests are concerned,
Lhe findings of the commission in ev
case are to be submitted to the’ Gereral
Land Office, without further conteét, and
that office shal] rule in the matter, This
procedure will save much time and expense
to. contestants. et
In view of the work thus accomplished
by the executive the State
Miners Association, “which it must be
acknowledged is important and beneficent,
we submit that the criticisms that were
recently made by the. Nevada County Asso~
‘ciation Weressomewhat premature and unjust. Wedoubt if, wath ths record in
view, the caucus of Nevada county delegates will formulate resolutions condemning the past yearsmanagement of’ the affairs of the Association. It is unquestionably proper to ever hold in proininence
the main idea of the Association—the reSuscitation of hydraulic mining. But it
is .also proper to acknowledge the good
work which the officers of the Association
have accomplished outside of that purpose.
Especially, is this trué when it is considered
that the officers in question have not lost
sight of the hydraulic mining problem, but
that they have given it much thought and
have expended much time and energy. Let
our County Association carefully review
the work of the parent organization before
they make haste to condemn,
_{We differ with our contemporary when
he says the action of our County Association was premature, Had it not been for
that action, as well as that in the same line

A Handy Contrivance.
The chemical fire extinguishers. purchased
some time ago by thie city bave proven
very handy contrivances, and have been successfully used by the firemen on more than
one occasion. For fires inside of residences
or other bnildings where water is apt to do
much damage, or where the fire is between
walls and hard to reach with water, the
little hand extinguishers are just the thing,
as the carbonic acid gas generated by them
reaches every spot and does the work much
quicker and more effectually than water’
does, and with but little damage to furniture or other property, ‘Three of these extinguishers are kept in readiness at the fire
house of Pennsylvania Company, No. 2,
three or four at the house of Nevada Hose
