Sad and Impressive Funeral Obsequies of the
The funeral of the late 0. J. Naffziger took place from Trinity Episcopal
church yesterday afternoon and was
very largely attended. Long before
the hour of service every seat in the
church was filled, with the exception of
those reserved for the relatives and the
Odd Feliows and Workmen. Rev. W.
A: Rimer delivered a short but impressive: sermon and paid a well-merited and glowing tribute to memory
of the deceased in which he extolled, bis
many noble qualities ae an upright,
canscientious citizen, as a kind, and
indulgent husband and father and as
a faithfal friend. ©
Mr. Noaffziger was a vestryman of
Trinity ehurch and the pastor, in reciting the other virtues of the deceased,
stated that hie interest in church affairs was such that be would never al-. —
‘low any ‘business to prevent his}
attendance at all the meetings and was
always ready to advance the interests
of those with whom he came in contact. Truly it can be said that he was
all that went to make up a good man.
The services throughout were befiting the mournful occasion and many . "
beautiful floral tributes covered the
top of the casket. The Oda Fellows
and Workmen turned out in unusally
large numbers and the last sad rites
of the fraternal societies at the grave
were very impressive.
The following acted as the bearers
of the pall: Thos. 8S. Ford, Theo. H.
Wilbelm, W. H. Crawford, F. T:Nilon, Obas. H. Eddy, Sherman W.
Marsh, J. H. English and W. G. Richards.
Thus oue by one are taken to the
silent tomb to await the day of resurrection. And the thought, considering the number who have been. suddenly called to their eternal home of
late arouses in the mind the nataral
question of “Who will be next?” In
consideration of these dreadful daily
warnings does it not impress every one
to have the great aim in life—that of
doing all the good they can, thus
contributing not only to their own
happiness but to all those around
them, before the day of sorrow is at
hand, Let the Golden Rule prevail—
‘(Do uute others as you would have
them do unto you,” and when the final
summons comes it will have been
proven that the world has been made
better by our having lived in tt. Eet
us strive in our daily walke in life to
do all the good we can. If the deserving could only receive the same praises
before death, instead of afterward,
surely it would be a great comfort and
men would be better prepared to meet
the battles of life, knowing that they
had the fall confidence of their fellow
men, After death it avsileth nothing
to thedeparted, although it affords
some consolation to the living.
