Some of these men are former Republicans, who left their old political associations, and who stand by the Democratic platform on account of this free-silver plank. The subject of the Federal and State appropriations, which amount to $500,000, for the dredging of the rivers and the erection of impounding dams, so that hydraulic mining may be pursued, will be discussed at length. This money has not been expended as yet, but when it is the miners of the State will make an effort'to have as much more again set aside by the Government and State, for they claim that it will take at least a million dollars to accomplish the desired ends. Still another matter that will be seriously considered is the more thorough organization of the miners of the State, so that when a movement is set on foot by the association the entire mining industry of California will give it its entire support. For some time past it has been stated that Jacob Neff, the president of the State organization, would not consent to act in that position any longer, and this was confirmed yesterday by Mr. Neff himself, who said: “I have served the association for the past five years, and it is time for me to take a rest. I will not consent to have my name used for this position again.” From what can be learned there are two gentlemen whose names are frequently mentioned for the high honors of president. One is Assemblyman Harold T Powers of Placer county, and owner of the Hidden Treasure mine, and the other is Superior Judge Judge E, A. Belcher of San Francisco. In all probability Ww. W. Montague will be re-elected as treasurer and Julian Sontag as secretary. Died of His Wounds. Louis Bridgeman, recently shot by Louis Sellier near Forest Hill, who mistook him for a deer, died at the Placer County Hospital Wednesday. He was about 50 years old and carried an honorable discharge from the army. panne = Wheat. On June 26th wheat sold at .6334. It ’ has since sold at $1.08}g.
