Caminetti and the Funding Bill.
Mr. Caminetti is devoting a great deal of
time to the Reilly Funding Bill, and with
difficulty finds words vigorous enough for its
denunciation. Mr. Caminetti has been four
years in Washington, and presumably has,
during that period, been familiar with all
matters pertaining to National legislation.
Did anybody ever hear of Caminetti’s opposition to the Funding Bill in Congress? We
all know of Judge Maguire’s position and of
his fight against the Democratic Reilly Bill.
Where was Mr, Caminetti_ when Maguire,
was making his fight? He di.Jn’t then know
anything about the Funding Bill, and did
not then oppose it.
on this proposition that he now deeuis so
important was one of masterly inactivity.
If Judge Maguire’s strictures on Congreseman Bowers were justified they apply with
equal force to Caminetti. If the bill was
not deserving of attention and opposition
from Mr. Caminetti while in Congress, the
people can have no faith in his loud protes—'
tations now. He was silent during all the
time of the discussion in Congress and is
now, by noisy declarations of opposition,
endeavoring to hide his own record.

This is the short but suggestive tifle of
the comedy that is to be presented at the
Theater next Monday evening by Stewart's
Comic Players. George .P;""Murphy, the
German comedian, and James F. Post, the
Irish comedian, are members of the company. Both are said to be artists in their
business. Miss Truly Shattuck, Miss Kitty
Kursale and Miss May Ashley are the leading lady members. The performance consists of a comedy into which numerous
songs, dances, and specialties are introduced, It is said to be a very funny and
amusing entertainment.

POLITICS.
Morris. M. Estee Speaks Encouragingly of the Campaign. _
Morris M. Estee, Republican candidate
for Governor, arrived in San Francisco Sunday from Eureka. While in Humboldt
county he made three speeches—one at
at Fortuna. The meetings, he said, were
the most enthusiastic and largely attended
ever held in the northern part of the State.
Mr. Estee is greatly encouraged, and predicts that a tidal wave bas set in that will
carry the Republican ticket to victory by
the largest majority ever given in the State.
