K Shattuck, ex-Mayor of Oakjland and Berkeley’s oldest and best . known citizen, died at 330 yesterday (morning at his home on Shattuck ; avenue, a8 a result of injuries received ‘mine days ago while sbout to board a street car. : i Mr. Shattuck was born at Crown ; Point, Essex county, New York, March After reaching Sactamento Mr. Shattack and his companions embarked in & Whitehall boat for Marysville and from there they proceeded on foot to Rose’s Bar, After & month of indifferent success at mining at that point they proceeded to Nye’s Crossing on the Middle Yuba, where they -undertook to turn the rivér from its channel for the purpose of mining the bed. They were.successfulin diverting the stream, but very little gold was secured from its bed. Atter this ansuccessful venture, the original party broke up and Messrs. Shattack and Biake came to Nevada City, where they formed a partnership with Messrs. Kleinfelter and William Hillegass in mining operations. Mr. Shattack engaged in hauling gravel from the hills down to Deer creek for washing while the other partners sank « shaft in thatvicinity. They remained here until December, when the rains caused them todesist operations. They then went to Goodyear’s Bar onthe North Yuba and spent the time there and at Downieville until January, 1852. ‘This ended Mr. Shattuck’s mining experiences for a time, and latterly he went to Oakland where he engaged in other parsuits. Mr. Hurley pleaded his own case and was discharged. Yesterday afternoon’s game of ball between the Monarchs and Pioneers was won by the former in a ten-itming game by a score of six to five. It was a great contest. At the end of the ninth imning they stood four.to four. Then Caverly.made an overthow to the home base and let in two runs for the Monarchs. The Pioneers made but ene run in the tenth inning. There were few errors on either side outside of disastrous overthrows by the Pioneers, the stronger of the two organizations at bat. “Overmeyer for the Pioneers struck out nine men and Whalen for the Monarchs struck out six.
