WEATHER BULLETIN. . :
ont
mer Than Usual. .
* Sr. Joszrm, Mo., Sept. 8.—Foster’s last
bulletin gave forecasts of the storm wave to
12th, and the next will reach the Pacific
‘Coast about September 13th, cross the
western mountains by the close of the 14th,
the great central valleys from the 15th to
the 17th, and the Eastern States about the
18th.
. This will bea dangerous storm. Not iu
all parts, but in places; probably most severe
west of the Mississippi about wad 15th’ or
16th.
The warm’ wave will cross the western
mountains about the 7th, the great central
valleys about the 13th, and the Eastern
States about the 17th. The cool wave will
cross the western mountains about the 16th,
the great central valleys about the 18cb, and
the Eastern States about-the 20th.
Killing frosts will occur in many northern sections from September 27th to the
30th. This frost may penetrate southward
as far as Oklahoma, Little Rock, Memphis,
Nashville and Raleigh, Along the north of
the 40th parallel all tender plants should
be protected at that time. In the Ohio valley tobacco planters should be ready to cut
their crop as this frost will probably injure
it. :
While some cold weather may be expected in October and November, Winter will
come late and the Fall season average warmer than usual. This, of course, does not
apply to the general average of the whole
United States,

'@ Good Wife.
Three well-known young men who answer
to the familiar names of Frank, Will and
Pat, have ‘received an invitation to visit
Nevada City in the near future, ‘Two of the
ovumber have captured the hearts of tw:
society belles in Nevada City and have promised to return the visit the young ladiemade to this city. The Nevada young
ladies are credited with being as good as
they are pretty and it may be expected that
in the near future Nevada and Yuba will
join hands and hearts.
The above we copy from the Marysville
Appeal. and right here we wish to say that
we are préeparéd to recommend to Yuba
county any number, from one to a bundred,
of the prettiest young ladies on earth, who
would make any man happy. Nevada
City beats the world for marriageable girls.
Send in your ordvrs, Mr, Appeal, that is
to say, if yon will vouch for the young men.

At Reno yesterday a jury was secured in
the case of Mra: H. H. Hartley, who is on
trial for the killing of Senator Foley. A
press dispatch says the afternoon was devoted to the examination. of witnesses with
the evident view of determining from the
doctors by the course of the bullet and the
appearance of the wound, how close Mrs.
Hartley was to Senator Foley when she}
fired the fatal shot. From testimony, adduced the distance is not. yet apparent. At

Origin of the Menhaden Industry.
Mr. Robert F. Walsh, in The Popnlar Science Monthly, thus recalls the
origin of the present menbaden indnsi **It was in 18650 when an old lady,
John Bartlett of Bluebill, Me.,
boiling some fish for her chickens, observed a thin oil upon the surface of the palsy, of this she bottled, and when on a visit to Boston soon
after carried samples to a leading oil
merchant, who encouraged her to bring
more. The following year the Bartlett
family industriously applied their gill
nets and sent to market 18 barrels of
oil, for which they were paid at the
vate of $11 per barrel. In the following
year this family made 100 barrels.

whose constitution was completely
broken down, is cured by Ayer’s
Sarsaparilla. “He writes: —“For eight years, I was, most of the
time, a great sufferer from constipation, kidney trouble, and indigestioii, so that my constitution seemed
to be completely broken down. TI was
induced to try Ayer’s Sarsaparilla, and
took nearly seven bottles, with such
excellent results that my stomach,
bowels, and kidneys are in perfect con_ dition, and, in all their functions, ‘as
* pegular as clock-work. At the time
I vegan taking Ayer’s Sarsaparilla, my
weight was only. 129 pounds; I now can
brag of 159 ponnds, and was never in so
good health. If you Gould see me before and after using, you would want
me for a traveling advertisement.
T believe this preparation of Sarsaparilla
to be the best in the market to-day.”
