Secret agents of the Treasury Department of San Francisco have arrested two men, ers who have been flooding Shasta, Lassen and Trinity counties with spurious coin that is a rémarkably clever counterfeit, The men are James Sylvester and George Short, and were arrested near Fall River Mills, Shasta county, on Sylvester's rauch, where a full counterfeitmg outtit was found, Sylvester has lived in Spasta county twenty years and is a prominent citizen of the county. Short, who ie related to him by marriage, is alxo well-known. Not Honorable to Run as An independent Candidate. The Tidings of last evening says: The Tidings stated that it was rumored that a well-known undertaker would be an indepeudent candidate for County Coroner. The gentleman to whom the item referred was W. D. Harris, and he wishes us to state emphatically that under no circumstances will he be a candidate. After appearing before the Republican convention, as a candidate for the nomination and pledging to support the ticket as nominated, he considers that it would be a breach of faith to rup independently or on any other ticket.
