Schmitz, und she asked me on her behalf to acknowledge the same and to express to you her heartfelt thanks for your nicipal convention. Municipal delegates, however, are to be elected from the seven city precincts of Grass Valley only, as Nevada City’s municipal election does not occur in November. ree . With the election of delegates only five days distant, interest is beginning to show itself in many ways and there is a probability that before the week is out those who desire to attend the county convention will make that fact known to their friends and there will” be a scramble to be elected. The scarcity of candidates for county offices this fall has probably had an effect on the interest so far displayed, but this lethargy will be overcome from now on. The hours for holding the primary election next Satur-day will be between one and eight o’clock p.m. In Nevada City each precinct will have a separate polling place. The voters of Precinct No. 1 will cast their votes at Fischer’s Grocery Store,” near the Plaza. Seven delegates will be elected and Thos. Daniels will be inspector. In Precinct No. 2 the City Hall will be the voting place; seven delegates will be elected and J. C. Rich will act as inspector, The polling place for Precinct No. 3 is at the No. 1 Fire House. Four delegates are to be elected and I. C. Lindley will be inspector. The voters in Precinct No. 4 will elect six.delegates and will vote at the No. 2 Fire House, Curtis Lecklin being the inspector appointed. Nevada City Township is entitled to 36 delegates to the Convention, 24 of whom are to be elected from the city proper. Election of delegates in the four precints outside of the Nevada City precincts and which are in Nevada Township will be as follows: . Gold Flat Precinct — Polls at the Schoolhouse; Meservey, inspector; four delegates. Indian Flat_ Precinct — Polls at Schoolhouse; Willis Green, inspector; two delegates, } Willow Valley Precinct — Polls at Schoolhouse; Vic Austin, inspector; three delegates. Selby Flat Precinct—Polls at Schoolhouse; H. D. Towle, inspector; three delegates. One week from next Saturday, September 27th, the Auditorium in Grass Valley will be a scene of interest, as the delegates to the ‘Republican County Convention meet to nominate officers. It is the first time in a number of years that the Convention has been held in Grass Valley. Wm. 4464644444484 Despolied by Fire. Let us hope, therefore, that the fiery scourge which is inflicting a large territory in two great States may create at least an additional pastoral and cultivable domain where formerly only impenetrable underbrush covered the landscape. Of ‘course the loss of the magnificent timber cannot be restored for generations, and upon that industry many persons have existed who will have to go elsewhere or turn their hands to some other means of livelihood.
