The increase of five cents in the rate will amount to only about $3500, 30 it will be seen that there will bea deficiency in the county funds to the tune of $5000 or $6000, This deficiency, it seems, will affect the school system more than any other branch of county affairs, and as a result it is probable that Grass Valley and Nevada City may be compelled to limit their echool} year to nine months, Of this the auhorities are not positive, but County Superintendent Rogers is of the opinion that such is likely to happen. It is the prevailing opinion that the Supervisors have done their best and have been as economical as possible in the administration of county affairs. I was the expectation that a reduction would be made this year, and it seems) uufortunate that such a large deficiency should come at this time. King Edward has shown his ability to uphold his own dignity and that of the English crown in rather an amusing encounter with the sultan of Turkey. The sultan thought it necessary to show some recognition of King Edward’s accession to the throne.
