The Drug Store Telephone.
‘Accommodation bureaus are all right
when they are conducted as such,’ said
a west side druggist, ‘‘but the sign over
my door was intended to inform. the
public that drugs were dispensed within
and not information doled out or telephone messages delivered blocks away. :
I make no kick when stamps are asked . for and the city directory consulted by
people, but when they ring up the telephone and call me from my work to answer it and then want a message delivered toa friend living a long distance
from the store only acertificate of membership in the Antiswearing club which
I have pasted on the transmitter keeps
__me from uttering fancy language. This
morning I was at the breakfast table and
was called to the phone. I found it was
a lady who patronized me about once a
“qnonth. She didn’t talk plainly and
kept me guessing for 15 minutes what
she was ‘driving at. I discovered that
she wanted me to tell her next door
neighbor that she wouldn’t be home to
dinner.and ask her to open a window of .
the house and ‘for mercy sake feed the
poor little cat.’ The telephone has been
removed.’’—Buffalo Enquirer.
Angelo’s Verdict.
Onee a painter notorious for plagiarisms executed a historical pieipre in
which every figure of importance was
copied from some other artist, so that
very little remained to himself. It was
shown to Michael Angelo by a friend,
who begged his opinion of it. ‘‘Excellently done,’’ said Angelo, ‘‘only, at the
day of judgment, when all bodies will Nevada City Council, No 30, Y. M. I.

know what will become of that historic-Te yey aiternate Friday Event FA BS

left of. it.’’—San Francisco Argonaut.

The Cowboy and the Folding Bed.
A cowboy up from the Texas panhandle was a guest at the house, and as
the clerk who attended to him is still in
Denver we will allow him to tell the
story:in his own way: ‘‘He hud on
store clothes and a red necktie, and
what he didn’t knoW wasn’t worth
knowing. When he started up to his
room at night, L.told him there was a
“folding bed in it, and, if he wished, the
bellboy would show him how.it worked.
Butnet much. He didn’t want to be
shown anything. He knew a thing or
two about the city, he did, even if he
did live down on the range.
“So I let him go, and next, morning
he paid his bill without a word and
owent-away. About noon I happened-to
be on that floor, and a chambermaid
called me to take a look in his room.
Ané@ what a sight met my eyes!
’ ottom drawer of the bureau was pulled
out as far as it’ would come, and in it
were all the rugs in the room, with a
towel spread over one end for a pillow.
Evidently he had tried to sleep there,
for pinned upon the glass was a sarcastic legend reading: ‘Gol dern yore folding beds. Why don’t you make ’em G
longer-and put more kivvers onto ’em?
Mebbe you expect aman to stand up
