Los ANGELES, September’ 19.—B. F. Edwards, formerly of Chicago, was tin for stealing bicycles. Edwarde kept a little shop in this city, where he systematically made a -Lusiness of changing stolen bicycles so that they could not be traced. He was a clever worker and ingeniously r moved the them uniformly of an old color. Firemen Injured. New Yours, September 19—Three firemen were injured and twenty-five horses burned to death in a fire ine large livery stable at 525 East Sixtyeighth Street early today. Two of the injured men were taken to the hospital, where it was feared their injuries would prove fatal. The financial loss was small, Appointed Deputy. Sheriff Getchell has appointed Geo. A. Bailey as Deputy Sheriff, to succeed John H. Pascoe who recently resigned. The appointment ie a very excellent one, as Mr. Bailey is well fitted and qualified to fill the respongible position, having had considerable experience in this capacity as a special officer. “George,” as he is familiarly called by bis many friends, is a ca-eful, obliging and capable official and a better eelection couldnot have been made. prairie chickens on the farm of L. A. Rowe, twelve miles from here. This so enraged Rowe that he fired twice at the hunters, shooting Miss Sher«in in the stomach and Law in the knee. Rowe ran home and swallowed the contents of a bottle of poison, dying in a few minutes, Miss Sherwin is not likely to recover. Coming Home. WasHINGTON, Sept. 19—The War Department has been advised of the sailing of the transport Logan from Manila September 16th for San Francisco, with Brigadier-General Frederick D. Vienna, September 19—It is reported that Tulifo Marri, the well known So cialist and lawyer, of Bologna, Italy, who is accused of the murder of Count Bon Martini, recently found assassibeen arrested at Ala, Austrian-Tyrol. The motive for the murder of Count Bon Martini was at first attributed to robbery. ‘On September 12th, however, Protessor Marri, a University Professor, Count Bon Martini’s fatber in-law, denounced his own son, Tullio, -as the murderer. The accused map, the dispatch added, admitted having wurdered his brother-in-law, and said the crime was committed after a brawl provoked by a family quarrel.
