As a result of a fall at the Beloher
mine at noon last Monday, Dryden
Alexander has laid off from work suffering from several injuries. He was
at work loading spiling on to a car,
and as he stepped backward he fell
over the oar track extending over the
mouth of a shaft. .The track prevented his falling into the shaft. Mr.
Alexander suffered a fractare of two
ribs in the fall, and is compelled to
lay off from work for a while.
_ Joseph Deal met with a very severe
aésident Wednesday afternoon on the
Sierra City road. He had been out
working with Wm. Shaughnessy and
his men, and they wore on their way
home. Deal was seated on the front
seat of the wagon, John McDonnell
driving. A sudden jolt threw Deal off
and he atrack the edge of the road and
when the wagon was stopped the injared man was found lying in the
wagon rut in the ‘roadway behind the
wagon. It was feared at first that the
the wheel bad passed over his body
bat an examination made afterwards
by Dr. Iglick disclosed the fact that he
was not injured otherwice than by the
fall from the wagon. Though quite

Past Few Days.
About midnight last Saturday Mrs.
Mary Oooley, wife of Ernest Cooley,
departed this life at her’ home on
Sprivg street. Mrs, Cooley nursed
the late William Scott, and contrected
pneumonia, which caused her death,
The decedsed was a native of San
Francisco, and aged 84 years. She
was well liked by all her acquaintances, and had many friends. Besides a husband, she leaves a sister in
Los Angeles and two brothers.in San
Francisco. The funeral took place
this afternoon at 2180 o'clock,
Mrs. Murrish, mother of Rev. J. T.
Murrish, who was pastor of the Methodist church at thie city at one time,
died at North Bloomfield sesterday
morning from the infirmities of old
age. She wasa noble, Christian woman, and was fully prepared when the
end came, ‘The deceased had been a
resident of North Bloomfield for about
ayear. The remains were brought to
this city last evening, and today were
shipped to Redding, Shasta county,
where interment will be, made.
_©. B. Chambers, an old resident of
this city, died Saturday morning at
Stockton, from a gradual breaking
down of the system. Deceased was a
native of Canada, and aged 78 years.
He lived at Selby Fiat for several
years, on the old Hitchcock place, until bis health gave away, and will be
kindly remembered by his many oldLanp and Water Company for
time friends. He was the father . of . the dam at Le ke Tahoe, known as the
John Chambers of Selby Flat, The
remains arrived here on last evening’s’
train, and the funeral took place from
the Nevada County Undertaking Parlora at 11 o’clock this morning.

Harry Fitzgerald was yerterday
fined: $10 by Justice Finnegan for disturbing the peace, He. was found
guilty of killing a dog belonging to
James Muir,
Frederick Oarnelues, the infant son
of Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Oooke, died
in Reno Wednesday. The child was
taken with a apell ef infantile dyspepsia
and lived but a day. The body was
brought here for interment. '
BE. E. Doolittle, a prospector who for
a number of years bas lived and worked
around Summit, died there Tbareday
of pneamonia, after an illneas of foar
days.
Hon. P. L. Flanigan of Reno wires
from San Francisco to James Sullivan
that he has closed the deal with the
Donner
Van Schmitt dam, for’ $40,000. The
Nevada Power and Light Company, of
which Mr. Flanigan is president, is to
pay $22,508 and the farmers on Ahe
meadows are to pay the balance.”
