The Board of. City Trustees held their regular monthly meeting last evening, all the members being present. D. S. Baker, President of the Board) was the presiding officer. The reports at Marshal Getchell and Treasurer Clutter were approved and filed. On motion it was ordered: that a special franchise be granted the Sunset Telephone and Telegraph Company for a period of thirty -days. “ The Street @ommittee was authorized to repair Tribulation Trail, certain culverts and the Suspension bridge. The Clerk was authorized to advertise for bids fora franchise to build a telephone line within the corporate limits of the city. The advertisemcnt appears in today’s}. . Holland & Rebinson, who have an office in the Crocker building, San Francisco, are the owners of patented processes for working gold and silver base ores, From a circular issued by them we learn that they have a new rapid fire process which completely desulphurizes any arsenical, tellurium and other base gold ores, concentrates and tailings in as . few minutes as it takes hours by old-style furnaces. By this rapid and cheap process they claim to be able to work such ores from the dump to base bullr ion for from $1.50 to $3. per ton at the mine, according to size of plant (providing wood is not over $3.50 per cord and water plenty), and save.90 to 95 per cent of the fire assay.city from John Clark of Meadow Lake gives the returns of a test made by this process of some of the most refractory ores found in that district, Two lots were werked, one lot giving a gold value. per ton of $37.50, and a silver value per ton of $3.90, a total of $41.40. The other lot showed a value of $18.75 per ton in gold and $2.60 in silver, or a total of $21.35 per ton. This is a very good showing and if the process is what it is claimed to be, and is practical, there will be a great change in Meadow Lake district. before another year rolls-round. A process that will successfully work the ore found in that-place means.a fortune forthe owners of the process and big returns to the mine owners, » ee hee Should Be Elected, We notice by the Grass Valley papers that John R. Tyrrell, Secretary of the late Republican County Central Committee, has been nominated for Justice of the Peace of that township. He should be elected, not only because he is one ° of the leaders ofthe Republican party there, but because he posssesses every qualification to make a first-class Justice. He read law, . The shrewdness of the average Chinaman is well known and has been frequently commented upon, but an instance happened the other day wherein a young Mongolian named Ah Sing displayed this faculty in a somewhat novel manner., Sing was born in this city, but he longed to-visit China and witness the sights and scenes in that part of the orient. He had his trip all planned when the war broke out between China and Japan. Sing knows a thing or. two about international law and so before leaving he went to the County Clerk’s office and swore allegiance to the United, States, thereby recgiving a document showing he is a native of this country and a loyal subject of the United States. This will insure him pretection from the American Govapnment should he be molested while abroad. : RRRIVALS AT THE Union Hotel, Main Street. G.H. Merrill, Grass Valley, Paul Quick & w.,—** M. T.
