occasion ushered in the 5ist anniversary of the order and the ladies to
commemorate the same prepared a
ehort, though tensely interesting, ’ pro: gram, A large number of the mem. bers had gathered to help individually
to make the time pags pleasantly and in
@ way that would reduund to the credit
of the lodge. That they succeeded
was amply noted in the pleased and
happy countenances that emerged
from the Hall of Fraternal Sisterhood
somewhere in the wee sma’ hours next
morning. First and foremost in the
lodge’s annals was the. passing upon
the current affairs of the order, which
work is eagerly listened to and strictly
‘adhered to by such flourishing orgaBizations.as the Rebekabs has grown
tobe. Following the routine business
came a recitation by Miss Gracie Jackson. Miss Jackson is an elocutionist
of attractive demeanor and, as she hes
done many times heretofore in her
able renditions, drew down the hearty
applause of the assemblage. Miss
Mamie Harryhousen also favored the
gathering with an iostrumental solo,
and her manipulations of the ivories
was admirably executed and as usual
she was encored to the echo,
The most prominent feature of the
evening, however, and one that was
extremely fascinating, was the sheet
and piliow drill, in which sixteen of
the most charmiug and vivacious ladies, en masque, of the fraternal tody
took part. Ibis was doubly interesta ing from the fact that two nice prizes
-. were awarded to the ones who could
solve the identities of the greatest
numbers of those taking part. Mr.
William Martin succeded in carting
off the first prize, whille Mrs. Louie
Schwartz contented herself with the
second prize. To wind up the enjoy.
able evening the members indulged in
the light fantastic until nature intervened and waroed them to seek the
repose which ig found in sleep.

A Landholder.
Our Jim Haley, who is now connected with the Truckee Republican,
is making a rapid. stride. In other
words, he is getting to be a bloated
land speculator. He has an option on
the Sullivan tract of land at the western end of the county, and advises
everybody to get in and buy a few lots
of bim, We'll vouch for anything
Haley aays about the lote. He is a
second George Washington, although
like all other human beings can lie,
but Jim wont.

The scenes of this jolly comedy are
laid in Amiens, France, and the fun is
of the Frenchy order. The first act
takes place in the store of Pomeret,
a dealer in millinery, who te ambi ious to marry his daughter, the
belle of Amiens, to a nobleman of that
vicinity. Act second occurs in the
garden of the church of Amiens, where
the Marguis de Ligny, who is to court
Rosine and marry her by proxy for
the Count de Brissac really courte
ber and wins her. The'third act is in
ao ante room of the town hall of
Amiens, where the nuptial ball takes
place. It is here that the Marquis
wakes up and discovers he is in love
with his own wife, and refuses to turn
her over to the Count, who is anxiously
awaiting the culmination of their bari . local churches yesterday, notwithatand. ing the fact that there are stilla great

Are the Statements of Nevada

Mrs, William Wearn of Water street,
Grbve, fourth house from Ragon’s
says: “I acted’as a nuree for many
years, and I knew from the beating
pain in the small of my back, sometimes 80 pronounced that I was gcarcely able to speak, that my kidtieys in
some way were disturbed, Just at the
time I noted Doan’s Kidney Pills advertised in the Nevada Oity newspapers I was suffering from an attack,
only one of many, which had annoyed
me for two years and I went to Vinton’s drug store for a box. Besides
the backache my eyes were affected, I
was dizzy and I think bilious, Whatever was the cause the disturbance
disappeared and ag a result the backache, dizziness and biliousness ceased.
Doan’s Kidney Pills are worth recommending. Icons antly keep them in
the house,’’
