The very latest thing which has been
attempted is a game of billiards on
bicycles, Two Chicago gentlemen
played a game of billiards whilst
mounted on bicycles. it is stated that
the stakes were £500 a side, and the
‘rules expressly forbade either player
to rest his machine against anything
whilst making his stroke.
The largest bicycle ever built wasthe
product of an American concern, and
was built for advertising purposes.
The framework was made of six-inch
tubing. The wheels had a circumference, of 45 feet. and were fitted with
singlé-tube tires 18 inches in diameter.
Half a dozen men could readily find
room on the gigantic saddle.
Some time ago we chronicled thecase
of the young man who nearly Killed
himself by endeavoring to ride 365 successive.centuries,.one each day. Another fool has assumed the mantle. He
proposes to ride 100 miles a day for an
entire year—or until he collapses.
There is no way of restraining suth fellows; they must learn in the school of
experience, like all other fools.
It is probable that no further attempt
will be made to import foreign cycling
champions to this country; . Their experiences have not been very pleasant, =
as they are outclassed by our own riders. Many will doubtless come in the
future. but not under the management
of any of the associations. Hereafter,
the foreign riders ‘will pay their own
expenses.
