They have received from the Commission a map and report showing . what lands are wanted,’ what the lands are assessed for, and what prices have been submitted. TheCommittee confess that it seemed to them at first sight that the distribution of this $20,000.00 would prove a windfall to some of the land owners. But ean examination of the figures gives a different aspect to the matter. The works are very much desired by the whole community, and great benefit, directly and indirectly, is to be expected from: the construction
of the proposed works. To Marysville and all lands endangered by the river, the proposed works are of peculiar interest. Toreap the greatest benefit, the works should be constructed at once. But before this can be done the may be that the Government wouid find it to its advantage to institute suits for condemnation. But this would consume an indefinite time, and great damage to the community, might result meanwhile. ‘The outcome: of the suits would of course give the land to the government-at a price approximating its assessed. valuation. But the by reason of the delay jn condemmation proceedings. It, istheir desire that the purchases should be made at once, even if more be paid for the land. Yet the trouble arises that the prices asked would eat up the whole fand — Marysville Appeal. Ge — Heard From Again.
