Summarized : Mention of Minor Home : Happenings. = Ice cream soda at Foley's is just the article during these warm days. The outlook at the Odin mine continues to look very bright. The steam wood sawing machine has thrown many a poor devil out of a job this season. : The changes in business houses and private residences next spring will be very, numerous if talk goes for anything. The sale of fall goodsis not rushing just now. People are putting on their summer clothing again. Allen’s new two-story building in front of the Union Hotel is progréssing finely. It will be completed some time next month, Geo. D. Buckley is pushing the work on the stable which he is building near the ‘Main street bridge for Gus Koppe. -The Harmony is still in-rich' gravel. The clean-up this month is sure to be big and “then the stockholders will get their. first dividend. A gentleman who arrived here from San Francisco this morning says it is Hotter than h— down there. He won't think so when he arrives at the latter place. The Miners’ Union of this city will hold a meeting at Odd Fellows Hall next Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Mrs. Sophia F. Durno, wife of W. C, Durno, formerly of Truckee, died at Marysville Tuesday morning. Deceased had been an invalid for the past six years. : The town of Haywards has been decided upon as the meeting place of thé next Grand Council of the Young Men’s Intstitute. A traveling medicine company, with variety-performance attachment, will occupy the Theatre about the.9th of next month. The weather continnes to be lovely, and we are praying that it will continue the same for a few weeks longer. Yesterday afternon Adam Craig fell fronr J. J. He was de—‘ _ lighted with the fresh air and the good water that is found in nearly every part ot Nevada.ccounty. of re hag + 2 @e oARTHUR MEYER’S ASSASSIN. Sheriff Douglass Will Go to Oroville Tomorrow After the Accused. Sheriff Douglass this afternoon swore to a complaint charging Tom: Laughty with the murder of Arthur Meyer, who was shot and killed about three miles from this city on the 30th of October, 1894. Laughty is now in the Butte county jail, at Oroville, serving a term for larceny, of which he was convicted about three months ago. It will be remembered that Laughty told a fellow prisoner that he killed~Meyer, the ‘driver of the Bloomtield stage, and also that he was heard to make a confession of the crime while talking in his sleep, addition to this the officers say they have other » dumaging evidence against Laughty, and fee] confident of making out a strong case They are satisfied that he is the guilty party, and think there will be no trouble in fastening the crime upon him. Laughty is an ex-convict and is regarded as a desperate man. Sheriff Douglass goes to Oroville tomorrow and expects to return here with the prisoner Saturday night. Itis to be hoped that the right man has been yun down and that if proven guilty he will receive the z puvishment which the enormity of the crime warrants. —— --~ 06s _Mine Flooded. In for the prosecution, About seven o'clock last evening the East Harmony mine becwne flooded. The water has been backing up in the mine for thzee or four months, and last evening the miners cut through and the water soon flooded the main tunnel and drifts, compelling the men to quit work.
