Section 7. The Governor, the Superintendent of Public Instructi.n, the President of the University of Culiforuia, and the Professor of Pedogy therein, and the principals of the State Normal Schools, shall constitute the State Board of Education, and sha!) compile, or caused to be compiled, and adopt, a uniform series of text-books for use in the common schools throughout the State. SENATE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT NO. 20, An Act to submit to the people of the Siate of California an amendment to section twentythree of article four of the Constitution of the St te of California. Section 23. The members of the Legislature shall receive, in full_payment for their services the sum of one thousand. ($1,000) dollars, an mileage hot to exceed ten cents per mile, and for contingent expenses not to exceed twentyfive dollarv, for each session, to be paid out of the public treasury. Noincrease in compensation or mileage shall take effect: during the term for which the members of either house shail have been elected, and the pay of no attache shall be increased after he is elected or appointed. NOW, THEREFORE, Pursian' to the provisions of the Constitution, apd un Act of tre Legisluture entitled “‘An Act to provide for the submission of proposed amendments to the Constitution of the State of Califurnia to the ‘qua)ified electors for their approval,” approved March 7; A. That.a City Road and Street Poll Tax of Three Dollars is hereby levied, for the fiscal year 1894-1895, upon each male inhabitants of the City of Nevada, over the age of 21 years aod under 50 years, for City Road ond Street purposes, which saidPol Tax shall become first day of July, 1894, in the manier provide by law for the collection of ‘School Poll Taxes, Section 2, The City Marshal of said City of Nevada is hereby;made collector of said tax, and shall cullect the same in the manner provided by law, and upon the neglect or refusal of any person liable therefor to’ pay said tax, after de-Mnand, said Marshal must collect the same by seizure and sale of any perso.al property owned: by such person.
