James Landsburg and wife came down from Relief Hill today. * has returned The Transoript of yesterday contained a special dispatch concerning ‘the robbery of the County Treasury of Merced county. particulars : D. G. Bambauer, County Treasurer of Merced county, not returning home at tbe usual hour Tuesday night, his family became algrmed and instituted a search for him. Not finding him, they enlisted the help of friends, and Following are the ] the search was kept up until 8 o’clock this morning, when for the first time they thought of looking for him in his office at the Courthouse. Entering his office they heard a feeble knock on the door from the inside. On opening it Mr. Bambauer wae found gasping for breath and nearly suffocated. He was soon resuscitated and told the Associated Press correspondent the following story : “Ou my way home last night I was stopped on Twenty-first street by two masked men. They searched me and, finding me unarmed, marched me to the courthouse. They had previously unlocked the front door for it was Walter Myers is over from North San Juan. S. Ames came down from Sweetland yesterday. J. Bowman was over from Spenceville yesterday. N. E. Tassett of lone City is here on 8 business trip. Gray arrived here this afternoon from San Francisco, Mrs, Weller and son left on the noon train for the East where they will reThe Teachers’ Institute will open ou Monday, October 22d, at the Washington schoolhouse in this city, and preparations are being made for the entertainment of the teachers and those who are to take part in the proceedings. The Institute will bs called to order on the afternoon of Monday, and L. 8. Calkins of the City Board of Elucation, . will deliver the address of welcome, on behalf of the citizens of Nevada City. Monday, evening a grand reception will be tendered the visiturs at the I. O O. F. hall, which is being arranged by Principal J. G. O'Neill), A banquet will follow. \ The program of exercises for each day will be attended to by County Superiutendent of Schools Rgers, as will also the lectures. A large attendance at the Institute is expected and the local teachers will Spare no pains to make it one of the . best ever held here. A -fine musical . and literary programme will be rendered each day and nothing will be left undone for the entertainment of Capt. Wm. Dennis and. wife, will arrive here tomorrow evening from Los Angeles, where Mr. Dennis has beeti for the benefit of his health. He resigned the superintendency of the Mountaineer mine some months ago on account of ill health. Mr. Dennis will again take charge of the mine next Monday. His many friends will be glad to welcome him back. L. Reiff a Winner. Lonpon, September 26.—At Newmarket today the Great Eastern Railway Handicap, 500 sovereigns added, six furlongs, was won by Spark II. Wild Irishman, ridden by Tod Sloan, was third.
