y the Convention
The following resolutions were presented at the Re-)
publican County Convention to-day, by the Committee on
Platform and Resolutions, and were unanimously adopted by ’
the convention: .
“The Republican party in Nevada County, through its!
delegates in Convention assembled, sets forth the following
declaration of its principles:
“This being the first time of the assembly of'a Repub,
lican Convention in this county since the death of President
William McKinley, we deem it our first duty to give expression of our profound sorrow at his untimely end. His exalted character as revealed in public and private life is one’
" of the proudest heritages of the American people.
_ “We reaffirm our allegiance to those fundamental principles which have guided the Republican party in its successive achievements, from the time of the turbulent events in
the administration of the immortal Lincoln, to the glorious
consummation of events under the administration of the
martyred McKinley. :
“We unreservedly approve of the administrative policy
of President Roosevelt, in following the lines of action of his
lamented predecessor in office, and in his avowed purpose to
suppress the baneful power of the Trusts.
“We commend the good work of our Senators and Representatives in Congress for their earnest and well directed
efforts. to secure the enactment of laws for the promotion of
the commerce and other material interests of the Pacific
Coast.
“We are especially pleased with the efforts of our senior
United States Senator, George C. Perkins, who has advocated
and promoted the interests of our mines and miners with
marked ability and success, -His long experience and recognized ability in the halls of the United ‘States Senate have
secured for him influential positions on committee, thus enabling him to advance our interests far more successfully
than can any new man whom we might elect as his successor,
however able the new incumbent might be.
“Under these circumstances the retirement of the Hon
Geo. C. Perkins-from the United States Senate at the close
of his present term of office, would be little short of a calamity to our commercial and political interests.
“We therefore advocate his re-election and hereby instruct the Republican nominee from this Assembly District
to vote for Senator George C. Perkins for the office of United
States Senator and to use all honorable means to promote
his election. .
“And further: We respectfully request the State Senator
who represents this county at the next biennial session of the
State Legislature to use his vote and influence to aid in the
re-election of Senator Perkins,
“We hereby ratify and approve the political platform
which was adopted by the Republican State Convention,
which assembled in the city of Sacramento on the twentyfifth day of August, 1902.
“We claim for the present Republican administration a
careful management of the affairs of the State of California,
which challenges comparison with that of any former State
administration for economy in expenditure and for a mini-—
mum rate of taxation.
“We congratulate Governor Henry T. Gage and the
other State officers on this creditable record and commend
their. worthy efforts to guard the State Treasury against
needless and wasteful expenditure of the State’s money.
“We ratify and approve of the nominations made by the
Republican State and Congressional Conventions, with full
confidence that Dr. George C, Pardee, our nominee for Governor, and his fellow nominees on the Republican ticket, will
maintain the honorable record of the Republican party for
its economical, honest and conservative administration of the
affairs of State
“We have every reason to believe that our nominee for. city; reapected and esteemed by all.
Congress, the Hon. J. N. Gillette, will put forth his best ef-. 30 Mtenaet, the pabllo echonie, ond . RS ear

He is a candidate in every way worthy of the vote of every Republican

Roosevelt and of perpetuating the Republican majority in
and for the promotion of our mining industry.
Congress,
“In the great struggle between organized capital and
labor we are in favor of such legislation as will. protect the
laborer in his just rights and secure for him those privileges
which are the inalienable heritage of every American citizen. svi on
