For Th:s Month.
In the Northern States the first half
of the month will average much cooler
than the last half. In the Southern
S:ates this will be reversed and the
first half of the month will average
much warmer than the last half.’
In.the North®rn States_the. temperature of. the first half of the month wil)
uverage much below, the. last half a
little above normal. In the Southern

the month.
In the Southern States the warmest
“week of the month will be from the 9th
to the 14th and the coolest week from
the 25th to the close of the month.
On the Pacific Coast the first half of
the month will show a lower temperature than usual, while during the last
half the condition will be about normal,
A severe hot wave will pass through
the Southeru States not far from the

28th.
Frosts will occur in the Northern

A force of twenty men are “actively
engaged at the Allender and Co.’s hydraulic elevator. The work has not as
yet sutticiently developed to advantageoasly utilize a full head of motive
power.
Mr. Postlethwaite went last ‘week to
San Francisco to have some changes
made in parts of the dredger machinery
which will necessarily delay the dredger
operations for a few days.

The Alaskan Country.
The discovery of gold in large quantities on the Yukon River is by no
means unexpected; there is a country
uo north that is not only rich in .minerals, but covers an empire in extent.
Some think the “mother lode” which
has been looked for in vain in California, will be found in Alaska, or the
British possessions. Little is known
of that part east of the Mackenzie River
and north of Great Slave lake.
Protect YOURSELF against sickness
and suffering by keeping your. blood
rich and pure with Hood’s Sarsaparilla
Weak, thin, impure, blood is sure to result in disease.
Hoop’s PILts are easy to take, easy
to operate. Cure indigestion, biliousness, 25c.
Your
Cough,
like a dog’s bark, is a sign that
there is something foreign
around which shouldn’t be
there. You can quiet the noise,
but the danger may be there
just the same. SCOTT’S
EMULSION of Cod-liver Oil
is not a cough specific; it does
not merely allay the symptoms
but it does give such strength
to the body that it is able to
throw off the disease.
You know the old proverb
of “the ounce of prevention ?”
Don’t neglect your cough. A
book which will tell ‘you more
on the subject sent free on re-quest.
Your druggist keeps Scott’s Emul
sion of Cod-liver Oil. Put up in 50
