Ali are cordially invited. MEADOW LAKE MINES. Considerable Prospecting Going On— ii, . Sales Made and Pending. There bas been miich prospecting and development work in the Meadow Lake district this season, since the completion of the new toll road from Cisco. There are at present twentytwo prospectors and mine owners in the camp. The Bonanza and Mammoth quartz mines, owned by George Clark of Nevada county and Roy Bemis of Sait Lake, have been sold to Salt Lake parties. Mining men from Sacramento, representing Australian capital, are negotiating for the purchase of the Grub Stake aud Oro Fino, now owned by John Clark and Frank Cook of Nevada county. 7 Lewis & Pauson are doing development work on ‘The Grant on the south side of Old Man Mountain. The old tunnel bas been re-timbered and extended. At the Weshington mine, on the southeast side of Old ManMountain, a new lower tunnel is being run to tap the ledge. 2 Cattle Dying t rom Black Leg. . Andrew Tansen, proprietor of what is known asthe Wall ranch, between Colfax and Gold Run, has lost several cattle from a disease supposed to be black leg. The stock has been feeding Siinieienbiiaiiatindadiaemmdsiiaaameaiininam PEE Davidson on Alaska. . Recently Prof. George Davidson, former Chief of the Coast and Geodetic Survey, delivered a lecture at Metropolitan Temple, San Francisco, on “Alaska and Klondyke.” “Alaska a shore line of 2,500 miles and an area of 579,000 square miles,” said Prof. Davidson, “or onefifth of the area of the entire United States. Thirty years ago it was bought for $7,200,000, largely, as I believe, on my recommendation, and since then the money has been repaid seven-fold. Already we have derived certainly not tess than $50,000,000 from that country. .The whole Yukon 1,900 miles long, with 2,600 miles of branches, was once under glacier. But California isa greater mining country today than Klondyke, rich as the Klondyke mines may be. For thirteen years, up toj;§ 1882, our product of gold was $719,900,000.
