Hanged To A Tree, RHINELAND, “ Mo., Sept. 4.—Thomas Larkin, a tramp, was taken from. the custody of the constable last night and hanged to a tree. His offense was a fiendish one. As Alla Gammon, a 18year-old deaf girl, was on her way home she was attacked by Larkin. She resisted him with all her might, and finding he could not subdue.her he stabbed her twice and then fled. She staggered home and told her story. Larkin was captured while waiting fora freight train and taken to the Rhineland Hotel: A hundred farmers and factory hands soon surrounded the hotel.’ The mob broke the doordownand seized Larkin, He begged and prayed for them to spare him, but they took him to a tree near town and swung him up, where they left him. A Bloody Encounter, VICKSBURG, (Miss.), Sept. 5.—News reached here Friday of a bloody encountered at’ Kilbourne, Arkansas, between Dave and Joseph McKee, father and sén, and J. C. Wilson, all of West Carroll parish, Louisiana. The fight which ended an old feud took place Monday night. Both McKees were killed and Wilson is thought to be mortally wounded. , Work of a Fiend, . Cuapron, Neb,, ‘Sept.’ 4.— An unknown fiend saturated the bédroom floor and beds upon which were’ sleeping the Assistant Postmaster W. A. Danley, his wife and two children, with kerosene, and then set fire to the room. When the firemen succeeded in removing the occupants both babies were dead and the parents were unconscious. The motive for the crime is unknown. Lively Scrapping, Astoria (Or,) Sept.4.—The fight between “Mysterious” Billy Smith of Boston and Jim Ryan of Australia took place last evening for a purse of $500. The fight was awarded to Ryan in the seventh round on foul play. Wher the decision was rendered, Smith struck the referee in the face, who promptly knocked Smith down. ‘The police then interfered, and ‘ultimately peace was restored. A Woman Strangler, San Francisco, Sept. 4.—Louis Pianelli was arrested at an early hour this morning while attempting to stranglea woman named Bernice Ward, livtng in a house on Quincy Place. While the fellow was in her house he grabbed her by the throat and threw her down on the bed. The woman’s screams attracted the attention of Sergeant Shea and several policemen, who ran to the house and burst open the door.
