Enderlein was present: . ed and Carl Scheemer named as exe: . “eator. The will provided for the following: I direct that my body be decently buried with proper regard to my station and condition. Second, I direct that my executor pay my funeral ex penses. I give and bequeath and devise to Louisa Scheemer, daughter of Mrs. Emma Scheemer, my house and lot on Spring street. I give and devise and bequeath all the rest and remainder of my propert; of every kind and nature to my niece, Mrs. Charles A. Senft of San Francisco. Lastly, I hereby nominate and appoint Carl Scheemer of Nevada City my executor. +Oe-+ -—_ Left Today. J. J. Sinclair of the firm of L.R Jordan, contractors of Sacramento, who has been superintending certain work which his firm had from the Pa cific Construction Company on the new Courthouse, has just about com pleted the contract. The work consisted of the roofing, galvanized cornices, iron railing, and, in fact, all) the decorations on the outside of the Courthouse. The job is first-class in every respect, and speaks for itself. Mr. Sinclair left today for Sacramento, where he has other work in that line. Wm. Bessey, another first-class mechanic of the firm, will take cherge and complete the work. Superior Court Notes. The following business wae transacted in the Superior Court today : Estate of Louise Scheemer deceased. Order appointing appraisers: James Kinkead, G. Schmidt and Chas. E. Ashburn were appointed. Estate of Louisa Isoard deceased Order appointing the following appraisers: C.J. Brand, Ralph Gaylord, and Joseph Fleming. Are Going Fast. A!l Native Sons who bave not as yet got their uniforms for the celebration should go to B. Miller’ immediately and get their measure taken. They will be charged $11.50 for the uniform, but if they turn out in the parade they will receive $5 in return. Quite a Gambler. New York September 5.—The extent to which bridge whist has been played this season can well be understood by the fact that one young girl in society fixed her earnings during the summer at $2000. She played the game well and is now that much ahead, with practically anotber month before her in which to increase her winnings. During the yacht races the interest in cards did not altogether die out, concerned as ths Newporters were in the result of the contest. Two of the largest steam yachts at Newport followed the boats, but for all that their passengers saw of the races they might have remained at home. The game of bridge whist began each day soon after the boat was under way and continued to the exclusion of every other subject. Killed by an Explosion. Los ANGELES, September 5.—News comes from the mining camp at Hedges that David Bean and Wm. Ames, employed in the Queen mine, were killed Saturday by the premature explosion ofa blast. Montgomery, daughter of Charles Scheurmen of North San Juan, is at the point of death in San Francisco. The cause of her illness is not known. Honowwtv, August 28 (via San Francisco; September 5).-*’The stirring events of the past few weeks have resulted in a movement to increase the military strength of _the Hawaiian Islands, and arrangements are being made to.add to the forces now here. It is thought that in the event of some sudden warlike movements Hawaii might have to defend herself for a time, as the United States has so far done little to make bare: islands safe from invasion. It is proposed to have a full regiment of troops here. There are plenty of men and eight companies are now in existence. There are plenty of men to complete the regiment.
