Dr. CO. W. Jones of Grass Valley states
that he does not intend to be a candidate for the Democratic nomination of
County Coroner. It was reported in
Grass Valley last week that he did.
A deliberate attempt at incendiarism
was made last night ut the millinery
store of Mrs. Whiteman on Church
street in the rear of Nathan’s dry goods
store, There was a hole in the showwindow.tbat had been made by e s‘one
thrown by a boy. Throagh this orening several leaves from a Suncay school
song book bad been inserted and set
on fire, but the bluze went out before
any damage resulted. The discovery
was made this morning when the elec.
tric light in the show-window was .
turned off. There was quite a display
of bats, ribbons and trimmings in the
window. Some of the tissue paper on
hats had caught on fire but the flame
went out before any damage was done,
Had the fire got a good start a serious
conflagration probably would have followed, as the building in question is
situated in tbe heart of the city.
