A deliberate attempt at incendiarism was made last night ut the millinery store of Mrs. Whiteman on Church street in the rear of Nathan’s dry goods store, There was a hole in the showwindow.tbat had been made by e s‘one thrown by a boy. Throagh this orening several leaves from a Suncay school song book bad been inserted and set on fire, but the bluze went out before any damage resulted. The discovery was made this morning when the elec. tric light in the show-window was . turned off. There was quite a display of bats, ribbons and trimmings in the window. Some of the tissue paper on hats had caught on fire but the flame went out before any damage was done, Had the fire got a good start a serious conflagration probably would have followed, as the building in question is situated in tbe heart of the city. nt DP 8 BRIEF MENTION. The Colusa Sun says: “There is a lottery ticket fraud working the towns in this part of the State. He has already visited Marysville and Chico.” The same smooth rascal recently worked Nevada City. INQUIRIES Made among the vineyardists show that the grape crop has been reduced probably one-quarter by the recent hot weather.
