and 44 Placer college students
were passengers in a school bus
which collided with a truck and
“trailer on the Auburn-Grass Valley highway.
The, suit. wes filed by her
father, Earl Belding, Grass Valley, and was handled by a Sacramento law firm. The suit is
against Placer union high school
¢ trict: William. E. Hutchins, .
driver of the bus; John Alves,
driver of the truck; and Manuel
J. Silva, owner of the truck.
The -accident occurredwhen
Alves and Hutchins both pulled
to the left to pass an automobile,
the truck struck the rear of the
bus and flipped it on its side.
According to the complaint
Miss Belding suffered. a compressive fracture of the 12th dorsal vertebra, contusions’ to body
and limbs, and shock.
Placer junior high school board
on July 2 rejected a claim Miss
Belding had presented for damages.

ANCHO-ERIE MINER
DIES HERE AUG. 17
Eric Backlund, 63, Nevada City,
who had been employed for several years by the Ancho Erie
Mining Co. at Washington, died
Wednesday about noon at the
Nevada county hospital. .
He had been ill and under doctor’s care for some time, but did
not require hospitalization until
early Wednesday when he was
rushed here by auto from the
mine.
Backlund, well known among
the miners of the community, was
born in Finland. He came to this
in ‘superior
country about 34 years ago and. ]”
became a citizen. He served in
the armed forces during the first
world war.
The body is at the Holmes Funeral Home.
